Justices uphold fireworks liability laws
TALLAHASSEE (AP) – The Florida Supreme Court has upheld local ordinances that require fireworks dealers to have insurance.
The justices ruled unanimously on Tuesday the rules do not conflict with the state’s fireworks statute.
The decision came in challenge to Brevard County’s ordinance that requires sellers to have general, comprehensive, liability and property damage policies of at least $1 million.
It’s illegal to sell most fireworks in Florida outside of those for public displays. Individuals can purchase state-approved sparklers and certain other, less potent items such as snakes and party poppers.
