Teen charged with decade old murder
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say a 15-year-old girl who helped police find the body of a missing child in 1997 has been charged with kidnapping and murder.
Karla Sevilla found 5-year-old Michael Malcolm Jr. in a trash bin. More than a decade later, investigators say DNA evidence shows the teenager killed Malcolm. Sevilla was charged this week with first-degree murder and kidnapping. Her DNA was found on his body and the garbage bag that had been wrapped around his head.
West Palm Beach Police Detective Alison Lichter says police have no motive for the killing and that Sevilla didn’t appear to know the victim or his family.
