Landing gear comes off plane; no injuries

FORT LAUDERDALE (AP) – A small plane skidded off a runway at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after part of its landing gear came off.

Airport spokesman Gregory Meyer says the Cessna 402 was attempting to land Thursday when the left landing gear separated from the aircraft. The plane skidded west on the runway until it stopped in the grass alongside.

There was no fuel spill, but the runway will remain closed until the aircraft is removed.

Meyer says neither the pilot nor his two passengers were injured. All three men were returning from a training flight near Lake Okeechobee.
