HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (AP) – Authorities were investigating whether three or four people were killed after finding wreckage Sunday from two small planes believed to have collided in midair near the Everglades.

Everyone on board was killed, but no bodies were recovered, causing confusion among authorities, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Federal Aviation Administration.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office says four people died in the crash, citing information from the flight school that shows four were scheduled to fly.

The planes departed Saturday afternoon from airports in Ft. Lauderdale and Hollywood and were not under air traffic control. Family members reported them missing and local authorities found the wreckage Sunday morning, FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said.

Authorities have not identified the victims.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
