Police: Nurse calls in sick, then robs work
CLEARWATER (AP) – Authorities say a registered nurse in west Florida took a sick day only to show up at work later wearing a mask and armed with gun to rob his employer.
According to a report by Clearwater police, 31-year-old Michael Villafana called in sick Nov. 26. Police say he robbed Highland Pines Nursing Home of several prescription painkillers and was charged with armed robbery.
Police say Villafana was masked and armed with a 9mm pistol, using his employee access code to get inside the nursing home. He used the same code to escape the building.
According to Pinellas County online court records, Villafana pleaded not guilty Wednesday.
