Next month’s roster of activities at Cape Coral Lee County Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
Adult Programs
Book Discussion: “The Personal Librarian” by Marie Benedict

Spanish Conversation Club

Bienvenidos. Improve your Spanish fluency by chatting with other adults. Join us as we practice speaking with others on a variety of topics, including current events and everyday situations. Intermediate to advanced Spanish-speaking skills are recommended to get the most out of the session. Registration is required.
Voices and Votes Exhibit: Democracy in America

This exhibit is based on a major exhibition currently on display at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. This Museum on Main Street adaptation will have many of the same dynamic features: historical and contemporary photos; educational and archival video; engaging multimedia interactives with short games and additional footage, photos and information; and historical objects like campaign souvenirs, voter memorabilia and protest material.

Celebrate Constitution Day at our sing along with School House Rock! Drop in and join the fun, featuring favorites from the election collection including “The Preamble,” “I’m Just a Bill” and “The Great American Melting Pot” among others. This program accompanies “Voices and Votes: Democracy in America” opening at the Cape Coral Lee County Public Library Sept. 14, 2024.

Crafts at Cape: Bracelet with Shrink Plastic Charms
10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 19

This month, create a bracelet with shrink plastic charms decorated with alcohol inks. Alcohol inks will stain so please dress accordingly. Registration is required. Each class has a maximum seating of 20. Participants may only register for one class in the series. Registration is guaranteed until the start of the program.
Voter Education for Young People
10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25
The Lee County Supervisor of Elections Tommy Doyle will provide a brief presentation regarding the importance of voting, the requirements to register to vote and the three methods of voting in Florida, among other critical and valuable topics for young voters and any new Florida residents attending this event. Registration is required.

More than Orange Blossoms: Feisty Fabulous Females of Florida
2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28
Though not always in the history books, the women who helped build, form, shape and develop the state have inspired hope and possibility. Stories of strong, courageous women like Julia Tuttle, known as the Mother of Miami, or Mary McLeod Bethune, daughter of enslaved parents who went on to become an adviser to several U.S. presidents and other brave women who influenced and impacted their communities, Florida and the nation. Discover and rediscover some of the women who grew and shaped the state. Registration is required.
