Kitten Season in full swing at Lee County Domestic Animal Services

By Staff | May 12, 2023

Mercedes, Animal ID 532843, black tiger, domestic short hair, kitten

Lee County Domestic Animal Services has a large number of cats and kittens entering the shelter as most cats begin their breeding cycle. Animal Services is asking for the community to adopt, foster or donate this season.

Since January of this year, there has been a 12.6% increase in cats arriving at the shelter. Animal Services has taken in 776 cats this year with 260 going to partner rescue shelters. More information on our partners.

Here is how to help:

Adopting

Adopters are needed for those cats and kittens old enough to go to their forever families. Now through Tuesday, May 30, all adoption fees on cats and kittens will be waived with an approved application.

Fostering

Services is also in need of volunteers to provide foster homes for kittens too young for adoption or a nursing mother plus her litter. All new fosters are provided with all supplies needed.

Donating

The following items are welcome to help care for the kittens:

• baby blankets

• water bowls

• kitten nursing bottles

• flat dishes

• digital thermometers

• cat beds

• Dawn dish soap

• cat nail trimmers

• Royal Canin baby cat food

Items can be dropped off at Animal Services located at 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers during regular hours. Online donations to the Animal Care Trust Fund are also appreciated and can be found at leegov.com/animalservices/trustfund. The Animal Care Trust Fund helps provide additional lifesaving services and community outreach.

The adoption center hours of operation are 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Adoptable pets can be viewed online at LeeLostPets.com and applications can be filled out in advance. Call 239-533-7387 for more information.
