District One Districtwide Roadwatch Report: April 30 – May 6

District One is 12 counties: Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Lee, Manatee, Okeechobee, Polk and Sarasota

Bartow — This weekly report is prepared by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to inform the public about upcoming road work in Southwest Florida. Below are the work schedule and lane closure locations for major state road projects.

Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

As a reminder, travelers can visit www.FL511.com or dial “511” from their phone to learn about traffic conditions on major roadways across the state.

If you know before you go, you can plan accordingly and save time and money.

CHARLOTTE COUNTY

US 41 from Midway Boulevard to Paulson Drive: Maintenance project: Motorists should expect intermittent outside northbound closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays, while crews perform geotechnical work.

US 41/Tamiami Trail from Payne Street to Rio Villa Drive: Construction project: Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime and nighttime/overnight hours while crews resurface the roadway, construct curb, gutter, sidewalk drainage, signage, and signalization improvements.

· Motorists should expect intermittent southbound and northbound lane closures from Aqui Esta Drive to Payne Street during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. at Aqui Esta Drive.

Motorists should use caution as crews work in the roadway. The expected project completion is late fall 2023.

COLLIER COUNTY

I-75 from the Toll Booth to Collier Boulevard: Construction project: Crews will resurface the roadway and construct guardrail.

· Motorists should expect northbound and southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Motorists should use caution as crews work on the roadway. The expected project completion is late summer 2023.

I-75 from mile marker 76 to the mile marker 100/toll plaza: Construction project: Crews will widen and resurface the roadway as well as construct new guardrail and animal crossings. Motorists should expect intermittent southbound and northbound lane closures during daytime hours throughout the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution as crews work on the roadway. The expected project completion is spring 2024.

I-75 from the Broward County line to the east of the bridge over Wildlife Crossing #15: Construction project: Crews will resurface the roadway and construct new guardrail and animal crossings. Motorists should expect intermittent southbound and northbound lane closures during daytime hours throughout the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution as crews work on the roadway. The expected project completion is spring 2024.

US 41/Ninth Street from Sixth Avenue North to Seventh Avenue North: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews perform maintenance to the roadway. Motorists should expect slow-moving traffic and possible delays.

US 41/Tamiami Trail from Davis Boulevard to Courthouse Shadows: Construction project: Improvements include adding mid-block crossings and pedestrian signals, milling and resurfacing, and making sidewalk repairs within the project limits. Motorists should expect lane closures during daytime and nighttime/overnight hours. Expected completion is late spring 2023.

US 41 from 10th Street North to 9th Street North: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews construct underground utilities. A temporary traffic signal will be installed during construction. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

US 41 from Tomato Road to CR 92 Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews construct a temporary bypass road. Motorists should expect slow-moving traffic and possible delays.

US 41 at the Treviso Bay Entrance east of Johns Street: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews make turn lane modifications. Motorists should use caution as crews work on the roadway.

SR 84/Davis Boulevard from Ospreys Landing to West Crown Point Boulevard: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent westbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews replace underground utilities. Motorists should expect slow-moving traffic and possible delays.

DESOTO COUNTY

SR 72 from Sarasota County Line to SW Rodgers Avenue: Construction project: Crews will be making improvements to SR 72 including cross slope correction, milling and resurfacing, shoulder reconstruction, miscellaneous drainage, and signing and pavement markings. During construction there will be single lane closures on SR 72 from the Sarasota County Line to SW Rodgers Avenue.

· Motorists should expect intermittent single lane closures in both directions on SR 72 form the Sarasota County line to SW Rodgers Avenue.

Please use caution in the area and allow extra travel time. Estimated completion is fall 2023.

SR 70 over Joshua Creek: Bridge maintenance: A Webber crew will be performing maintenance on the bridge on Thursday, May 4, 2023. Motorists should expect intermittent eastbound and westbound lane closures on SR 70 over Joshua Creek on Thursday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please use caution in the area and follow flagger directions.

GLADES COUNTY

US 27 from Fisheating Creek to the Highlands County line: Construction project: Crews will be milling and resurfacing US 27 from Fisheating Creek to the Highlands County line. Other improvements include widening, guardrail, and signing and pavement markings. The bridge over Fisheating Creek will be repaired/rehabilitated including pile jacketing and spall repairs. During construction daytime lane closures may occur on US 27.

· Motorists should expect daily intermittent lane closures on US 27 throughout the project limits until project completion.

Please use caution in the construction zone and watch for workers in the work zone. Estimated completion is spring 2024.

SR 78 Sidewalks at Various Locations: Construction project: Crews will be installing five-foot sidewalks with a retaining wall along the south side of SR 78 from Access Road to Ben Street and from Chobee Street to Lake Drive and from Linda Road to Buckhead Ridge RV & Boat Storage. Other improvements include signing and pavement markings and drainage improvements. During construction daytime lane closures will occur on SR 78.

· Motorists should expect daily intermittent lane closures on SR 78 throughout the project limits until project completion.

· Road closure: Lake Drive off of SR 78 has been closed at the intersection of SR 78 and Lake Drive. Crews are placing a drainage pipe under the road and a detour is in place for approximately four weeks. Please follow detour signs and use caution in the area.

Please use caution in the construction zone and watch for workers in the work zone. Estimated completion is fall 2023.

HARDEE COUNTY

None at this time.

HENDRY COUNTY

None at this time.

HIGHLANDS COUNTY

US 27 from Glades County line to Polk County line: Maintenance contract project: Crews will be mowing and picking up litter along US 27 northbound and southbound from the Glades County line to the Polk County line. Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

US 27 at S. Lakeview Road: Construction project: Crews will be widening US 27 at S. Lakeview Road for off-set left turns. Additional work includes constructing asphalt bulb-outs and installing a traffic signal at the intersection of US 27 and South Lakeview Road. Please use caution and watch for crews working in the work zone.

· Motorists should expect intermittent single daytime lane closures on northbound and/or southbound US 27 at Lakeview Road Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Estimated completion is spring 2023.

US 27 from south of SR 70 to north of SR 70: Construction project: Intersection improvements. Crews will be reconstructing the intersection with concrete pavement, resurfacing SR 70 and US 27 near the intersection, shoulder work, drainage improvements, signalization, and lighting, and signing and pavement markings.

· Beginning Sunday night, April 30, crews will be pouring concrete at the intersection of SR 70 and US 27. Motorists should expect a 24-hour lane closure

from Sunday night until Monday night on SR 70 eastbound and westbound. Please follow flagger directions and use caution in the area.

· Motorists should expect daytime intermittent lane closures on US 27 and SR 70 near the intersection.

· Traffic has been shifted on eastbound and westbound SR 70 and northbound and southbound US 27, while crews place concrete pavement on the roadway. Each direction is down to one lane of traffic near the intersection. Please follow signage and use caution in the area.

· The driveways for Circle K and the BP Station will be impacted while crews place concrete at the intersection. Motorists will need to access Circle K from SR 70 and BP from US 27. The Circle K driveway off US 27 will be utilized as an Exit Only and the BP driveway off SR 70 will be utilized as an Exit Only. These driveway impacts are expected to be in effect until the end of March 2023.

Estimated completion is summer 2023.

LEE COUNTY

Pine Island Road Causeway and Bridge Permanent Repairs: Construction project: As a part of the Emergency Restoration of the Pine Island Road Causeway and Bridge, motorists can expect temporary, intermittent lane closures with flagging operations along CR 78 Pine Island Road from west of Little Pine Island Bridge (Bridge No. 120111) to West of Shoreview Drive.

· Crews will begin clearing the construction zone, installing temporary asphalt and installing a low-profile barrier.

· Beginning in June, crews are expected to begin driving sheet pile in the south side of the roadway.

· Pedestrians and bicyclists are not permitted within the construction zone.

· Expect noise from construction equipment in the area.

· Please be patient as travel may be slower than usual.

· Please use caution and watch for workers and construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway.

Sanibel Causeway Emergency Restoration: As a part of the Emergency Restoration of the Sanibel Causeway, crews continue work on McGregor Boulevard and the Sanibel Causeway from Port Comfort Road to Sanibel Island. The causeway islands surrounding the temporary roadway are an active work zone and are currently closed for public access.

· Crews continue driving sheet pile around the causeway islands.

· Crews continue earthwork on the causeway islands.

· Bicyclists are encouraged to utilize another mode of transportation to travel the causeway.

· Pedestrians are not permitted on the Sanibel Causeway.

Many oversized vehicles are crossing the causeway to assist with recovery efforts on the island. Please be patient as travel may be slower than usual. MOTORISTS ARE REMINDED TO OBEY THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 20 MPH. Please use caution and watch for workers and construction vehicles entering and leaving the roadway.

I-75 at Colonial Boulevard (mile marker 136): Construction project: Crews begin construction on the I-75 at Colonial Boulevard Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) Project. Other improvements along Colonial Boulevard include a Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) at the intersection of Six Mile Cypress Parkway/Ortiz Avenue and a Superstreet intersection at the Colonial Boulevard/Forum Boulevard intersection. I-75 will also be widened to provide an auxiliary lane in each direction from Colonial Boulevard to SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The off-ramps at Colonial Boulevard DDI and the northbound offramp at SR 82 will have emergency stopping sites.

· Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Forum Boulevard from Colonial Boulevard to Dynasty Drive through the duration of the project.

· Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on I-75 and the on and off ramps at SR 884/Colonial Boulevard during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of construction.

· Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on SR 884/Colonial Boulevard during the nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway throughout the duration of the project. The expected completion date is mid-2024.

US 41 from Hickory Drive to Emerson Square Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway and reconstructing medians at Hickory Drive, San Carlos Boulevard, Shadow Creek Boulevard, and Harborage Drive.

· Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures through the duration of the project.

· Crews will be installing underground utilities at San Carlos Boulevard, Sanibel Boulevard, and Constitution Boulevard.

The resurfacing will be done overnight/nighttime between 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway. The expected project completion is early 2024.

US 41/Tamiami Trail at Crystal Drive: Maintenance project: As part of the emergency restoration due to Hurricane Ian, crews will be repairing signals at the intersection. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should expect slow-moving traffic and possible delays.

US 41 from Tara Boulevard to French Creek Lane: Construction project: Crews are constructing a sidewalk on the west side of US 41 from Tara Boulevard to French Creek Lane. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures throughout the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

US 41/Cleveland Avenue from Winkler Avenue to SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Construction project: Crews will be installing and relocating utilities and constructing medians on US 41/Cleveland Avenue from Winkler Avenue to SR 82.

· Expect Edison Avenue closed on the east side of US 41 / Cleveland Avenue.

· Expect Crawford Street closed on the east side of US 41 / Cleveland Avenue.

· Motorists should expect side road closures from Winkler Avenue to Victoria Avenue throughout the duration of the project.

· Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures and detours on US 41/Cleveland Avenue during daytime and nighttime/overnight hours Monday through Friday throughout the duration of the project.

Additional work includes installing drainage structures, pedestrian signals, upgrading signals and lighting, and resurfacing existing highway. The project will be constructed in three segments. Each segment will have most of the construction completed prior to moving to the next segment. Crews will work on the west side of the road initially and when that work is completed, they will shift to the east side of Cleveland Avenue/US 41. The expected project completion is late 2023.

US 41 from Bonita Beach Road to Pondella Road: Construction project: Crews will be improving the lighting systems at the following intersections along US 41: Bonita Beach Road, Center of Bonita Springs Plaza/Boston Road, West Terry Street, South Bay Drive, Bernwood Parkway, Timberwilde Drive, Pelican Landing Parkway, Sanibel Boulevard, Constitution Boulevard, Bell Tower Road, Big Pine Way, Crystal Drive, Palm Drive, Beacon Manor Drive, South Airport Road, Boy Scout Drive, Sam’s Plaza, North Airport Road, North Key Drive, Hancock Bridge Parkway, and Pondella Road. Motorists should expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. throughout the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution as crews work alongside the roadway. Estimated project completion is fall 2023.

SR 867/McGregor Boulevard from Colonial Boulevard to College Parkway: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures during daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. while crews remove trees. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

SR 739/Metro Parkway at Daniels Parkway: Maintenance project: As part of the emergency restoration due to Hurricane Ian, crews will be repairing signals at the intersection. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should expect slow-moving traffic and possible delays.

SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from SR 884/Colonial Boulevard to Wallace Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent outside eastbound lane closures while crews store debris near the roadway. Motorists should use caution while traveling in this area.

SR 80/Palm Beach Boulevard at Old Olga Road: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent eastbound and westbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews widen the roadway and construct a turn lane. Motorists should use caution while traveling in this area.

SR 31/Babcock Ranch Road from Shirley Lane to Greenway Boulevard: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound lane closures during daytime hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. while crews construct driveways in the area. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.

State Roadways (US 41, SR 31, SR 78, SR 80, SR 82, SR 739, SR 865, and SR 867): Maintenance contract project: Crews are sweeping curb and gutter on state roadways and bridges.  Motorists should expect lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Motorists should expect slow-moving traffic and possible delays.

MANATEE COUNTY

I-75 at US 301 Interchange (Exit 224): Construction project: Project will widen the I-75 from SR 64 to the Manatee River, reconfigure the I-75/US 301 interchange from a partial cloverleaf interchange to a tight diamond configuration, construct new bridges will be constructed over the Manatee River for a northbound exit ramp and a southbound entrance ramp, and US 301 improvements. This week, crews will work on resurfacing I-75, US 301 work, and pile driving for the construction of the new southbound on-ramp bridge over the Manatee River and Salt Marsh Bridge.

· Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 northbound during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction; double closures on I-75 southbound during the nighttime/overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

· Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 northbound during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the construction; double closures on I-75 southbound during the nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

· Motorists should expect lane closures on US 301 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

· Motorists should expect lane closures on Tidewater Preserve Boulevard through the duration of bridge construction.

· Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and US 301 through the duration of the construction.

· Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is early 2025.

US 41 from 17th to Bayshore Road/ 26th Street, including the 23rd Street Roundabout, Palmetto: Construction: Crews have begun work in the area so please use caution in the construction zone and be alert for construction equipment in the area. Construction crews will be working at the intersection of US 41 BUS and 23rd Street to prepare for the traffic shift.

· Motorists can expect temporary daytime lane closures from north of 17th Street to just past 23rd Street throughout the duration of the project.

· Be cautious in the construction zone and reduce speed. Lanes have shifted with areas of uneven payment.

· This week crews will focus on drainage and excavation work in the area.

US 41 Green Bridge: Special Event: On Saturday, April 29, the Green Bridge will be closed for the City of Bradenton and the Hernando DeSoto Historical Society special event from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. They will be closing SR 64 from 39th Street W to 1st Avenue West. The detour for the Green Bridge is to use the Hernando DeSoto Bridge on US 301.

US 301 from 60th Avenue East to Erie Road / Old Tampa Road: Construction: Crews will work in the median, placing asphalt in the areas of the road widening along US 301. Nighttime lane closures are expected to begin paving in median areas and break out areas of concrete requiring a lane closure. There will be limited daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to pour concrete curbs, driveways, and sidewalks. A low profile barrier has been installed in the right turn lane of US 301 southbound to Erie Road to protect drainage work in the corner of Erie Road and US 301 (by the CVS). This will reduce the length of the turn lane for the duration. Motorists can expect construction vehicles in and out of the right-of-way limits. The scheduled completion is in the summer of 2023.

SR 70 at Lorraine Road to Desoto County Line: Crews will be shoulder blading, repairing guardrail delineators, removing overgrown vegetation from under the guardrail, trimming trees, and replacing RPM’s in this area. Motorists should expect temporary lane closures (flagging operations) and shoulder closures in both directions through Thursday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SR 64 Manatee Avenue between 9th Street East to 6th Street East: Permit project: Starting Monday, May 8, and going through Saturday, May 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be intermittent outside westbound lane closures. The City of Bradenton will be installing landscaping. Please allow extra travel time and watch for workers.

SR 64 from 39th Street West to 1st Avenue West: Special Event: The City of Bradenton and the Hernando DeSoto Historical Society will be hosting a special event on Saturday, April 29, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. They will be closing SR 64 from 39th Street West to 1st Avenue West. They will also be closing the Green Bridge at US 41. The detour for the Green Bridge is to use the Hernando DeSoto Bridge at US 301.

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY

SR 70 at SE 10th Avenue: Driveway permit project: Crews are re-constructing sidewalks and modifying utilities. Watch for workers close to and in the roadway.

US 98 from north of NW 80th Avenue to SR 70: Construction project: Crews will resurface the roadway on US 98 from north of NW 80th Avenue to US 98. Additional work includes shoulder treatments, roadway reconstruction at the railroad, sidewalk, traffic signals and signing and pavement markers.

· Motorists should expect intermittent single lane closures from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on US 98 from north of NW 80th Avenue to US 98 and on SR 70 during construction.

· Beginning Sunday, May 21, at midnight, US 98 will be closed at the railroad tracks through Friday, June 2, 2023, while crews reconstruct the railroad tracks. Detours will be in place. Please follow signage and use caution in the area. Law enforcement will be on site to help direct traffic.

POLK COUNTY

I-4 Eastbound exit ramp (Exit 32) at US 98: Maintenance project: Expect a nighttime/overnight lane closure from 9 p.m., Monday, May 1 to 6 a.m., Tuesday, May 2 as crews make repairs to the asphalt on the ramp. Use caution and be prepared to merge or stop.

I-4 from CR 557/Old Glade Road (Exit 48) to Osceola County: Construction project: Crews will resurface I-4, upgrade or replace sections of guardrail and shoulder, install new signing and roadway pavement markings, and install vehicle detection systems and traffic monitoring sites at various locations. This week, crews will work on resurfacing.

· Motorists should expect

o Sundays through Thursdays: from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

o Fridays and Saturdays: from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

· Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-4 during nighttime/overnight hours:

o Sundays through Thursdays: from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

o Fridays and Saturdays: from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

· Motorists should expect ramp closures on I-4 during nighttime/overnight hours from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

· Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-4 through the duration of the construction.

· Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is late 2023.

I-4 at SR 557 Interchange (Exit 48): Construction project: This project includes reconstructing the interchange from an existing cloverleaf interchange to a diamond interchange with roundabouts at the ramps, replacing the two-lane bridge with a four-lane bridge, modifying SR 557 and I-4 within the interchange area and adding a new wildlife crossing under I-4. Traffic has been shifted onto the new SR 557 bridge and new westbound lanes of I-4.

This week all eastbound I-4 traffic will be shifted slightly north onto the old I-4 westbound lanes so crews can begin removing the remainder of the old bridge and continue building the new eastbound lanes and eastbound exit ramp. Expect nighttime/overnight single lane closures starting at 9 p.m. and double lane closures starting at 10 p.m., Wednesday through Friday nights, May 3 through May 5. Use caution, be prepared to merge and expect delays.

I-4 at CSX Railroad Bridge approximately 1200 feet west of Kathleen Road (Exit 31): Construction project: This project includes replacing the existing 250-foot bridge with two new 400-foot bridges to provide for CSX double tracking and will accommodate future expansion of I-4. This week, crews will move equipment across the eastbound lanes of I-4.

· Eastbound I-4 will be CLOSED at the CSX Railroad Bridge from 9 p.m., Thursday, May 4 to 5 a.m., Friday, May 5.

· All eastbound I-4 traffic will be DETOURED to Exit #28 (US 92/West Memorial Boulevard) east to US 98 North/Florida Avenue then north back to I-4 (Exit 32).

· Use caution and add extra time to your schedule to reach your destination.

Expected project completion is summer 2025.

US 98 at Colbert Road/Lake Hancock Road: Construction project: This project includes adding a new signal at US 98 and Colbert Road/Lake Hancock Road, improving intersection lighting, installing pedestrian signal and high-visibility crosswalks and resurfacing the intersection and striping for bike lanes at right turn lanes.

· The new signal is now up and directing traffic through the intersection.

· Use extreme caution until everyone is used to the new signal.

· BE PREPARED TO STOP.

Expected project completion is late summer 2023.

US 92 West from Lynchburg Road to 21st Street NW: Utility project: Watch for periodic lane closures and workers close to the road as crews replace poles and install electrical equipment. Use caution and be prepared to merge or stop.

US 92 from Holiday Boulevard to US 92 (New Tampa Highway): Maintenance contracts project: Watch for eastbound and westbound shoulder closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, May 1, through Saturday, May 6, as crews water sod on the shoulder of the roadway. Use caution and be prepared to merge or stop.

US 92 from US 17/Lake Alfred to Combee Road: Maintenance contracts project: Watch for eastbound and westbound lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, May 1, through Saturday, May 6, as crews clean storm drains. Use caution and be prepared to merge or stop.

US 27 at SR 60 Interchange: Construction project: Crews will replace the bridges carrying SR 60 over US 27 and reconstruct the interchange from a partial cloverleaf design to a Single Point Urban Interchange. Other improvements include widening the roadways from four lanes to six 11-foot lanes, bicycle lanes, curb and gutter, a closed drainage system, and six-foot sidewalks. Crews will construct an urban frontage road in the southwest quadrant along SR 60 for access to local businesses. The project also includes construction of a noise wall along SR 60 from South Miami Street to west of Sharp Street, resurfacing Central Avenue from west of US 27 to Miami Street, installing signals, lighting, signage and pavement markings on US 27 and SR 60. Daytime and nighttime lane closures will occur on US 27 and SR 60 during construction.

· The new ramp on SR 60 eastbound to US 27 is open. Frontage Road no longer has access to US 27. If traveling on SR 60 eastbound, motorists wishing to access US 27 must use the new ramp. Please follow the signage. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on SR 60 eastbound and westbound while crews work in that area.

Please use caution in the area and watch for workers in the construction zone. Estimated completion is early 2025.

US 27 from Polo Park East Boulevard to south of US 192: Maintenance permits: Expect a northbound lane closure from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, May 1 and Tuesday, May 2 as crews install a concrete barrier along the shoulder of the road to construct a right turn lane for future development. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

US 27 from Blue Heron Boulevard to Holly Hill Cutoff Road: Construction Project: This project includes resurfacing; adding a new signal at Holly Hill Cutoff Road; widening for bike lane striping at the turn lanes; improving the turn radius at southbound US 27 to westbound Sanders Road; adding high visibility crosswalks at Bates Road, Sanders Road/Davenport Boulevard, and Holly Hill Cutoff Road/North Boulevard West; installing street lighting at signalized intersections; and making minor drainage improvements.

· The intersection of US 27 at North Boulevard/Holly Hill Cut-off Road is scheduled to be reopened and the new signal in full operation on Tuesday, May 2, barring any unforeseen circumstances. Motorists should BE PREPARED TO STOP, and exercise extra caution as everyone gets used to the new signal.

· Expect nighttime/overnight single lane closures starting at 7 p.m. and double lane closures starting at 9 p.m. while crews repair asphalt, install signal sensors and stripe the roadway.

· Watch for daytime shoulder and turn lane closures as crews install signs.

Expected project completion is early 2023.

US 17 from north of the CSX railroad bridge to South of Lunn Road in Fort Meade: Construction project: This project includes milling and resurfacing, widening for bike lanes at the right turn lanes, install lighting, sidewalk and guardrail. Expect daytime lane closures in either direction for paving. Use caution and be prepared to merge. Expected project completion is summer 2023.

US 17 (NW 6th Street) from Mirror Terrace NW to Lee Avenue NW: Utility project: Watch for periodic lane closures and workers close to the road as crews replace fuses. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

US 17 from Radford Road to Gate Road: Utility project: Watch for periodic lane closures, sidewalk closures and workers close to the road as crews replace poles and perform miscellaneous overhead work. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

US 17 from Spirit Lake Road to Bomber Road: Construction project: The improvements under this project include reconstructing the intersection of US 17 and Spirit Lake Road with concrete, milling and resurfacing, adding lighting, upgrading signal equipment, and relocating utilities.

· Expect daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, May 1, to Friday, May 5.

· Use caution and be prepared to merge.

US 17 at Crystal Beach Road: Construction project: Construction on this project includes closing the full median opening and building a directional median opening for drivers turning left o and from Crystal Beach Road, adding a northbound acceleration lane, widening the southbound right turn lane and separating it from the travel lanes, removing the southbound left turn lane and resurfacing the southbound lanes, replacing lighting and improving drainage features west of US 17. This week, motorists should expect single lane closures on US 17 during the day as crew perform widening work in the median and at the southbound right turn lane from US 17 onto Crystal Beach. US 17 from SR 544 (Havendale Boulevard) to Brigham Road: Construction project: Safety improvements on this project include adding 6-foot sidewalks along both sides of US 17, installing new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHB) Signals with a raised pedestrian median at New Beginnings High School, installing or repairing curb and gutter along both sides of US 17, modifying several existing driveways, upgrading transit stops, installing lighting and upgrading signal equipment and improving drainage. There are no planned lane closures this week. Expected project completion is summer 2023.

SR 655 (Recker Highway) from east of Coleman Road to CR 542 (K-Ville Avenue): Construction project: Recker Highway improvements include: milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, curb and gutter, pedestrian enhancements, signalization and lighting.

SR 572 (Drane Field Road) at Don Emerson Drive: Construction project: This project includes constructing a single lane roundabout, drainage improvements, lighting and landscaping. SR 570 (Polk Parkway) from I-4 to Old Dixie Highway: Construction project: Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise is converting an 18-mile portion of Polk Parkway/SR 570 to electronic tolling between I-4 and Old Dixie Highway/CR 546 in Polk County. This project includes constructing three new toll gantries at the Western Mainline (milepost 8), Central Mainline (milepost 13), and SR 540 New Mainline (milepost 15.5), removing cash toll collections and replacing them with SunPass and TOLL-BY-PLATE and demolishing the existing Western and Central Mainline toll plazas. SR 570 (Polk Parkway) from US 92 to I-4: Construction project: Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise is widening a four-mile segment of Polk Parkway/SR 570 to four lanes, between Old Dixie Highway/CR 546 and south of Pace Road and resurfacing the existing 4-lane portions between US 92 and I-4 in Polk County. This project includes constructing a new interchange at Polk Parkway and Braddock Road, widening Braddock Road from west of Polk Parkway to Berkley Road and constructing new electronic tolling points on Polk Parkway and Braddock Road ramps. Work also consists of resurfacing the ramps at CR 546, improving signage, pavement markings, signalization lighting and drainage throughout the project and improving local roads including the realignment of the City of Auburndale Water Treatment Plant access road and the neighborhood access road south of Braddock Road, as well as minor resurfacing on Berkley Road at the Braddock Road intersection. SR 540 (Cypress Gardens Boulevard) from east of US 17 to west of 1st Street: Construction project: Improvements under this Contract consist of resurfacing US 17, SR 540 and 1st Street, adding turn lanes, lengthening existing turn lanes, replacing the temporary traffic separators with a permanent concrete traffic separator on SR 540, improving crosswalk striping and adding pedestrian countdown signals, upgrading signal equipment and replacing streetlights with LED lights. This week, crews will be working on drilled shafts and lighting.

SARASOTA

I-75 at SR 72/Clark Road (Exit 205): Construction project: Project improvements include reconstructing the existing interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), adding auxiliary lane on I-75 northbound from SR 72 to Bee Ridge Road, widen I-75 southbound from Proctor Road to SR 72, and improvements on Clark Road. This week, crews will work on the ramps, retaining walls, noise walls, and drainage work.

· On Monday, May 1, at midnight to Tuesday, May 2, at 2 a.m., crews will CLOSE I-75 northbound just north of Laurel Road (Exit 195). All I-75 northbound drivers will exit at Laurel Road (Exit 195) and continue on Laurel Road to a right onto Honore Avenue to a right onto Clark Road to I-75 northbound.

· On Monday, May 1 at midnight to Tuesday, May 2, at 2 a.m., crews will CLOSE the SR 681 on-ramp to I-75 northbound. Drivers will detour to a left onto Honore Avenue to a right onto Clark Road to I-75 northbound.

· Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. bound through the duration of the construction.

· Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

· Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 72 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

· Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 72 through the duration of the construction.

· Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is late 2024.

US 41 at the KMI Drawbridge: Bridge maintenance: Crews will be performing a routine inspection of the bridge Tuesday, May 9, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists can expect temporary right lane closures.

US 41 South between South Palm Avenue and Hudson Avenue: Permit project: Through the end of May 2023, crews will be working at the Marie Selby Gardens extending existing turn lanes, adding right turn lanes, making drainage improvements, adding signalization improvements, landscaping improvements, street lighting improvements and signing and pavement improvements. Motorists should expect temporary inside and outside lane closures as well as overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The contractor will be performing intersection work affecting US 41 and Orange Avenue. Please use particular caution in the area and watch for pedestrians and workers.

US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive: Construction project: Construction on US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive is making median modifications, widening paved shoulders, adding turn lanes to accommodate six-foot wide bicycle lanes and adding sidewalks along the 1.37-mile section of road. Modifications will be made to existing traffic signals and crosswalks to support the bicycle lanes and new sidewalks.

· Median work should be complete by May. Expect temporary lane closures of inner lanes. Most are temporary lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless safety requires it be maintained. Consider alternate routes or add additional time.

· To reduce the number of vehicle conflict points and enhance safety, median openings along the corridor will be eliminated. Proceed to the next opening and make a U-turn.

Expected completion is summer 2023.

US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point: Construction: Construction on the next phase along a 1.4-mile area of US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point Road has begun. Work consists of implementing safety improvements along the corridor, including resurfacing, lighting and signalization, median improvements, improved drainage, shoulder reconstruction, improved sidewalks, improved bicycle lanes, and curb and gutter improvements. This week no lane closures are expected.

US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Crews will work within the right-of-way, medians, driveways and throughout the project limits. Please use caution and watch for construction vehicles, dump trucks, semi-trucks and heavy equipment entering or exiting the work zone.

Activities include:

· Removal of temporary roadway base material on US 41 along the Marina Jacks parking lot.

· Asphalt paving throughout the project (night work, see details below).

· Installation of new sidewalk at the northwest corner of the Main Street and US 41 intersection.

· Install drainage pipe by the Marina Jacks parking lot.

· Mount permanent signs throughout the project.

Nighttime/Lane Closures:

Anticipated schedule, weather permitting:

· Paving operations will continue nightly.

· Paving operations will occur throughout the project. Pavement marking crews will be restoring traffic pattern on new asphalt.

· Motorists traveling through the project during the night operation should expect to encounter lane closures between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

· Traffic during the day will be restored to normal operation.

Detours/Crossings:

· Phase 2B configuration is in place. Motorists on approach yield to motorists within the roundabout. Vehicles within the roundabout have priority and right of way.

· Palm Avenue and 2nd Street are closed at the US 41 connection in both directions. Entering and exiting the downtown area via Cocoanut Avenue to Fruitville Road is recommended.

· Sidewalk at the northwest corner of US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue is closed. Pedestrian paths are available via US 41 Multi-Use Recreational Trail (MURT) along Ritz Carlton Drive.

· The east pedestrian crosswalk at Sunset Drive and Gulfstream Avenue is closed. The west pedestrian crosswalk is available to cross Gulfstream Avenue. Signage and pedestrian barricades are in place for guidance.

· Marina Jacks north parking lot entrance/exit on Gulfstream Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic. Motorists may access the parking lot via Bayfront Drive at Main Street/Marina Plaza. No through traffic is allowed through this area. Motorists may not exit the Marina Jacks parking lot via Bayfront Drive at Main Street/Marina Plaza. The south exit at Ringling Boulevard must be used to exit Marina Jacks.

Detours and lane closures will be in place during various phases of the project. During construction, the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph on US 41 and Gulfstream Avenue.

We encourage motorists to allow extra time to travel, follow the roadway signage and messaging and avoid making unauthorized U-turns or changing lanes across solid lines between the lanes when traveling through the construction work zone.

Construction activities will take place weekdays and weekends, daytime and occasionally during nighttime hours. Expect noise from grinding asphalt, hammer drills, noise and vibration from construction equipment, backup alarms, vacuum trucks, pumps, and lighting.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of replacing the existing signalized intersection on US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue with a roundabout, installation of Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) system, raised pedestrian refuge islands, replacement of underground drainage structures, utilities, fiber optic, new LED streetlights, reconfiguration of stormwater retention ponds, sidewalks, and pedestrian walkways. Expected completion is spring 2023.

US 41 at Wellen Park Village Roundabout: Permit project: A traffic shift is in place so please pay close attention through the construction zone. The lane shift will be in place for approximately six (6) months. Consider alternate routes or add additional travel time during peak hours.

US 41 South of Bayview Parkway at Dona Bay Bridge: Bridge maintenance: Crews are making bridge repairs so motorists can expect temporary daytime single lane closures of the outside lane from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please use caution in the area, allow additional time for temporary delays or consider alternate routes.

SR 777 River Road from US 41 to I-75: Construction project: Motorists can expect pond excavation near Venice Avenue on the northbound roadway. Embankment activities continue on the southbound roadway from US 41 to Venice Avenue. Trucks will be crossing the road at various locations using intermittent flagging operations. Drainage installation will also continue between Observation Blvd and Aucilla Dr. Paving operations will take place during nighttime hours along NB and SB roadway from N of Venice Ave to Stoney Creek Blvd. Overall completion expected mid-2025.

SR 758 Midnight Pass from Stickney Point to Shadow Lawn Way: Construction project: Crews have begun a 1.6-mile roadway and safety improvement project on Midnight Pass Road (SR 758) from Stickney Point Road (SR 72)to Shadow Lawn Way in Sarasota County. Work will consist of milling and resurfacing, shoulder/turn lane widening, sidewalk replacement, drainage improvements, signing and pavement markings, and signal and lighting improvements. Expected completion is fall 2023.

· Overnight milling and resurfacing is underway on Midnight Pass Road from Shadow Lawn Way to Stickney Point.

· Work will start approximately 8 p.m. depending on traffic levels and go until approximately 5 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagging operations. Allow extra time.

· Expect noise or lights from construction equipment through the duration.

· Temporary lane closures or flagging operations could be necessary throughout the duration of the project.

SR 72 between Beneva Road to Honore Avenue: Permit project: There will be an intermittent outside eastbound lane closure on SR 72 between Beneva Road and Honore Avenue through Tuesday, May 2, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Crews will be performing soil testing. Please watch for lane closures and allow extra travel time.

SR 72 Clark Road and Lorraine Road Roundabout: Permit construction project: Crews are finalizing the roundabout so continue to use caution in the area.

SR 72 Clark Road at Proctor Road and Dove Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Traffic is now in the roundabout configuration and the speed through the roundabout has been reduced to 25 MPH.

· Motorists can expect temporary lane closures or flagging operations while crews perform final work.

· Thermo placement will begin Sunday night with short duration flagging operations.
