Fathoms Restaurant & Bar’s Yappy Hour raised more than $1,300 for a golden cause last month.

“Yappy Hour” takes place the last Friday of each month from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Cape Harbour and benefits the Golden Retriever Rescue of Southwest Florida. Each month has a theme. February’s theme was Mardi Gras. This month, the tables will be decorated for Easter.

Community members are welcome to bring their well-mannered, leashed K-9 to meet friends, enjoy raffle prizes (including 50/50) and enjoy a good evening out at one the Cape’s popular — and scenic — venues.

GRRSWF is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit dog rescue organization based in Southwest Florida dedicated to finding exceptional homes for exceptional golden retrievers and golden mixes that are homeless, abandoned in shelters or surrendered by their owners into their “forever” homes.

GRRSWFL’s mission statement is to work to raise awareness of the plight of the golden retriever breed specifically through community education as well as the benefits of adopting a rescue animal in need. They also support and promote responsible spay and neutering, as well as programs that are designed to prevent animal abuse, neglect and cruelty.

They also take in dogs from elderly individuals, people that have to relocate or owners that don’t realize all it takes to care for an animal and surrender. Volunteers can also foster the K-9 until a proper home is found.
