Manzo to speak at Cape Friends of Wildlife meeting Tuesday
Barbara Manzo, chairperson of “Eyes on 20/20,” will be the guest speaker at the Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife monthly meeting Tuesday, Jan. 10, at the Rotary Park Environmental Center in Cape Coral.
“Eyes” is a coalition of local organizations who monitor Lee County’s purchasing and managing of Conservation 20/20 properties. The group keeps an eye on threats to the local water supply, water management, wildlife habitat and the conservation of natural resources.
Manzo will give an update regarding the concerning status of the program.
After 41 years of working in the field of Parks and Recreation (22 of which were with Lee County Parks and Recreation), Manzo retired in 2012 to pursue the pastimes she enjoys.
She started her career in New York, where she was the deputy director and director, respectively, in two cities in Westchester. Born and raised in New York, she moved to Lee County in 1990 with her husband to take the job of deputy director of Lee County Parks and Recreation. In 2009, she took the reins as director of Lee County Parks and Recreation
In 2014, she joined the Lakes Park Enrichment Foundation (LPEF) to help the organization achieve its goals and be the liaison between the foundation and the county. She is currently President of the LPEF.
In 2016, Manzo joined the Yes on Conservation 20/20 initiative and agreed to take over the chair position of the group.
In 2017, she continued as chair of the same group, which changed its name to Eyes on Conservation 20/20.
She has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in parks and recreation as well as an MBA.
The Friends of Wildlife meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a meet and greet, followed by Manzo’s “Eyes on 20/20” at 7 p.m. At 7:50 p.m., there will be a Friends’ general membership meeting.
