The Lee County Black History Society is hosting two popular events for the holiday season, including its 10th annual Holiday in the Park and annual Movie in the Park.

Holiday in the Park will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 at Roberto Clemente Park in Fort Myers. With the theme “Celebrating African American Inventors at Christmas,” the free community event includes food and music, the Soul Santa Parade, community tree lighting, tours of the Williams Academy Museum with the African American inventor’s exhibit, bounce houses and more. Soul Santa & Elves Fire Truck Parade line up starts at 3:30 p.m., with the tree lighting at 6 p.m.

On Friday, Dec. 9 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., the annual outdoor Movie in the Park will screen “Jingle Jangle,” a 2020 musical fantasy film where an imaginary world comes to life in a holiday tale of an eccentric toymaker, his adventurous granddaughter and a magical invention that can change their lives forever.

“The community looks forward to these joyous events,” said Charles Barnes, chairperson of the Lee County Black History Society. “After the impact of Hurricane Ian to Fort Myers, it’s so important for us to come together in celebration.”

Both events will be held at Roberto Clemente Park, at 3265 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Fort Myers.

The Lee County Black History Society, Inc. (LCBHS), a nonprofit organization, was founded in 1994 by Janice Cass. The LCBHS, Inc. is comprised of an 11-member Board of Directors which meets on the second Tuesday of each month. The meeting is open to the public.
