How Southwest Florida
is coping with rapid growth

Developers, investors, government officials and real estate experts will address the dynamics of population growth and real estate development at the 2022 Real Estate Symposium on Oct. 6. The annual half-day program is presented by the Real Estate Investment Society in partnership with the Lutgert College of Business at Florida Gulf Coast University.
FGCU President Michael Martin and REIS President Kent Poli will provide opening comments. Regional economic trends will be analyzed by Dr. Amir Neto, director of the Regional Economic Research Institute. A series of panel discussion will follow, addressing “Finding and Clearing the Path of Growth,” “How Infrastructure will Keep Up” and “The Future of Rental Housing.”
REIS President Kent Poli notes that “Southwest Florida is adapting to new market trends and economics and REIS is pleased to provide a forum with knowledge and ideas that will help our members and our community leaders succeed in this dynamic environment. The presenters are all leading experts who will share their expertise with property owners, government officials, and real estate development professionals who attend.”
The symposium will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at noon on Thursday, Oct. 6, in the Cohen Center ballroom at Florida Gulf Coast University. Admission is $35 for REIS members and $50 for all other interested persons. There is no charge for FGCU students. Registration is required at www.reis-swfl.org.

Stan Stouder, CCIM of CRE Consultants represented the seller and Toufic Simaan of Simaan Real Estate represented the buyer in negotiating the transaction.
∫ Midland Trust Company FBO Steve Roe purchased a 7,146-square-foot industrial building at 2633 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Fort Myers, from EMAG, LLC for $1,200,000. stan stouder, CCIM of CRE Consultants negotiated the transaction.

Seagate names Barnes vice president of finance, corporate controller
Seagate Development Group this week announced the addition of Damon Barnes as vice president of finance | corporate controller. He oversees financial, accounting and industry-related technologies for all Seagate business segments.
With bachelor’s degrees in pre-law, finance and accounting, Barnes launched his career as a controller for publicly traded Alico Inc. He was ultimately named director of financial planning and analysis for the company and was responsible for special projects and acquisitions in Florida and New York.
He later became chief operating officer and chief financial officer for Windmill Farms Nurseries, playing a critical role in taking them from a small family grower to supplying Lowe’s and Home Depot stores from Texas to Florida. He eventually took on a chief financial officer position for five-entity Everglades Family of Companies during its transition from Winter Garden to LaBelle.
A certified public accountant and certified management accountant, Barnes went to work for himself – providing start-up businesses and well-established organizations with tax planning, IT implementation and accounting tools – just ahead of accepting a position with Seagate.
