Neymotin and The Office of Criminal Conflict & Civil Regional Counsel, Second District Court of Appeal earn Governor’s Sterling Council Leadership Team Excellence Award
Ita M. Neymotin, regional counsel, Second District and The Office of Criminal Conflict & Civil Regional Counsel, Second District Court of Appeal Leadership Team were awarded the Governor’s Sterling Council Leadership Team Excellence Award for 10 years of dedication and leadership excellence. The award was presented at the 30th Annual Governor’s Sterling Award Banquet at the Gaylord Palms Orlando, on June 3.
In addition to this award, Neymotin and The Office of Criminal Conflict & Civil Regional Counsel, Second District Court of Appeal leadership team also earned the 30th Anniversary Sterling Conference Team Showcase Greatest Customer Impact Award.
The Office of Criminal Conflict & Civil Regional Counsel, Second District Court of Appeal provides legal representation to indigent persons in criminal cases, dependency and civil cases, and certain statutorily authorized civil commitment proceedings. It also handles appeals and post-conviction motions. Regional Counsel saves millions of taxpayer dollars every year while providing quality representation to clients.
Neymotin, who was born in Almaty, Kazakhstan, located in Central Asia, was appointed by Gov. Rick Scott in 2011, making her the youngest attorney and the first female appointed in the State of Florida as regional counsel. She was reappointed in 2016 and is currently serving her third term. She oversees 140 attorneys and staff throughout 14 counties in the Second District of Florida. She travels throughout the state educating people on civil rights and diversity. She is also a death penalty litigator and author of three published books on civil rights and civil liberties.
The Florida Sterling Council is a not-for-profit, public/private partnership supported by the office of the governor and public and private businesses, consisting of more than 150 examiners and a 40-member board of directors. The Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel, Second District Court of Appeal is one of five regional counsel offices created by the Legislature in 2007 to provide legal representation to indigent persons in criminal cases in which the court grants the Public Defender’s Motion to Withdraw and appoints the OCCCRC2 as well as in dependency and civil cases, and certain statutorily authorized civil commitment proceedings. OCCCRC2 also handles appeals and post-conviction motions.
