Two thousand free backpacks filled with school supplies will be given away to children during the first-ever Operation Summer Bash, which also will feature entertainment, food and fireworks.

“This is the first year we are hosting Operation Summer Bash,” Sheriff Carmine Marceno said. “We are so excited to invite the residents of Lee County to this event. Community engagement remains one of my top priorities. Building relationships with the residents of our county will help maintain law and order and keep paradise safe”

The event will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at JetBlue Park, 11500 Fenway South Dr., Fort Myers. The event will feature various activities ranging from a petting zoo to meeting Lieutenant Hope, a member of the animal cruelty taskforce.

“Summer Bash will be filled with activities and attractions! We will have a petting zoo, carnival rides, music, and an up-close look at our Helicopter, Bomb Squad Truck, SWAT Truck, and more,” Marceno said.

Children will also have the opportunity to see their favorite comic book heroes in action during the event.
