Cape Coral Legion Post 90 donates thousands to local charities
American Legion Post 90 and Sons of Legion Squadron 90 in Cape Coral announced their annual donations to support local community charities and veteran organizations totaling $12,100. These donations are a result of year-round fundraising activities. Post 90 donated $2,000 to Cape Coral for the Children to provide scholarships for high school students.
“Our post always supports local charities in times of need and adversity, and providing scholarships is especially important during these challenging economic times,” said Keith Berres, commander of Post 90.
The director of the charity, Julie Lombardi, said, “The mission of the Cape Coral for the Children is to recognize student achievement and community activities and was grateful for the contribution.”
The second charity, the Cape Coral Caring Center, received a donation of $3,100 from the Sons of Legion Squadron 90.
American Legion Base-ball chair and S.A.L Finance Officer Bob Buchholz stated, “Our thoughts are for the safety, security and well-being of everyone affected by hunger.”
Caring Center’s Execu-tive Director Julie Ferguson, said, “Our most sincere thanks go out to all of the members of the American Legion and the S.A.L. who contributed to ensuring the reduction of food insecurity in Cape Coral.”
In addition to these donations, Post 90 contributed funds to support veterans in various ways. For example, one of the donations was awarded to the American Legion Department of Florida Suicide Prevention Program for $3,500 and another to the department for $3,500 for Project Vet Relief. This program helps veterans with financial needs.

American Legion of SW Florida Post 90 was established in 2001 and currently marking its 20th year of operations. Members number approximately 1,000, and S.A.L members number about 120. The Legion provides a broad range of services to veterans and the community.
