American Legion District 13, Project: VetRelief to hold veteran suicide awareness event and resource fair March 26 in Port Charlotte

By Staff | Mar 18, 2022

A regional veteran suicide awareness event and resource fair will be held in Port Charlotte on March 26.

American Legion District 13, along with Project: VetRelief, will host the event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at American Legion Post 110, 3152 Harbor Blvd.

The Veterans Suicide Awareness Event and Resource Fair will include mental health, suicide, therapy or counseling, service dog, homeless, women veteran, caregiver and family resources.

The event also will include children’s activities, entertainment by the veteran band Blackbird Anthem, and a Vietnam Veteran Pinning.

The event and resource fair is a fundraising event where the money raised allows Project: VetRelief to fulfill its core mission of “assisting Florida’s veterans, active-duty military members, and their families in their time of need. They can confront issues by addressing a veteran’s, service member’s and family member’s condition in a time of crisis, working to secure benefits, and offering a support system.”

Project: VetRelief provides services “to lessen the burden carried by our veteran, servicemen and women and deter these significant issues from affecting their lives.”

The American Legion, District 13, covers Lee, Hendry, Charlotte, and Collier counties.

The Legion’s mission is “built on a promise from men and women who swore with their lives to defend and protect the United States through military service. The promise begins at enlistment, grows through training and discipline in the U.S. Armed Forces and continues after discharge, as veterans in service to community, state, and nation. In times of crisis, The American Legion steps into the turmoil and fights to provide needed assistance for others.”
