Other recreational sites within Lee County that are owned or maintained by other government entities are not included in the free swim/free parking weekend. These include Barefoot Beach, beach access points managed by the Town of Fort Myers Beach and city of Sanibel sites, including the south side of Blind Pass.

The free pool/free parking weekend happens annually. Lee County Commissioners on June 16 signed a resolution designating July as National Park and Recreation Month in Lee County. Commissioners recognized Lee County Parks & Recreation as an agency that touches the lives of individuals, families, groups and the entire community and positively impacts the social, economic and environment quality of our county.

This July, Lee County Parks & Recreation has been celebrating with the theme We Are Parks and Recreation. Throughout the month on Facebook and Instagram, the department is spotlighting patrons enjoying the variety of amenities and activities offered at Lee County’s parks, as well as the park and recreation professionals who work to ensure the county’s parks are safe, inclusive to all and exceptionally maintained. Community members are encouraged to share their own photos and experiences in the parks using the hashtag #WeAreParksAndRec.

CDC guidelines and social distancing are encouraged for all park patrons, including those gathering for photos to be submitted.
