By Staff | Jun 26, 2020

An Island Coast High School senior has been selected for the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Scholarship. Logan Hayford applied for the Marine Option College Program, which is the part of Navy ROTC, specifically designed to mold young aspiring college students into Marine Corps officers.

Hayford was set to receive a check for the scholarship during an awards ceremony at 11 a.m. today, June 26, at 3923 Coconut Palm Drive in Tampa.

The NROTC Scholarship is worth $180,000 and covers the cost of tuition, textbooks, fees and uniforms.

During this four year program, Hayford will gain professional military education and the leadership experience that is expected from a Marine 2nd Lieutenant.

Only the individuals of the highest caliber are selected for the NROTC program. Each applicant awarded the scholarship is required to submit a package and meet several requirements to be considered. These individuals are then hand-selected by Marine officers to become future leaders in the Corps.

Each applicant must meet the basic requirements to apply for the program. Some of the requirements include that each candidate be a United States citizen, be eligible for a security clearance and be physically qualified according to standards prescribed for midshipmen.
