The Women’s Council of Realtors in Cape Coral will hold a food drive to benefit the Cape Coral Caring Center this weekend.

Eileen Snider said prior to the COVID-19 shutdown, the Cape Coral Caring Center was feeding five families a day. That number has increased to up to 79 families some days.

It is the center’s mission to help people with food, as well as other necessities when they are having an emergency situation, which is why the Council wanted to help, she added.

The Call 2 Feed Cape Coral will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 16. Musicians will entertain individuals as they navigate the Cape Coral canals asking for donations of dry food items to help the hungry of the community. The items being sought include canned meats, peanut butter, jelly, pasta sauce, side dishes like instant mashed potatoes, bottled drinks and toilet paper.

Monetary donations are also being accepted at www.capecoralcaringcenter.org. Snider said for every $1 raised the Caring Center is able to purchase $8 in food.

She is hoping to get more real estate companies to get on board and donate either $100 worth of food, or $100.

“We have three boaters going through the canals,” Snider said, adding that they are Jay Legase, Realtor with RE/Max; Dan Puleio with Cape Cleaners and Deb Hogue. “One of the musicians is David Jonosky.”

Prior to the event they would like to drop off plastic bags to the neighborhoods on board, as well as flyers sharing information about the event.

“If you have a listing in the South Cape area and you would like to promote it that day with an open house inside, or outside, please let us know. If you have a boat and a listing on water, we would like you to work that canal/neighborhood,” Snider wrote in an email.

Individuals can also drop off donations at Royal Palm Realtors Association parking lot, 918 SE 46th Lane, in Club Square, across from Rusty’s and Big Blue from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Snider said both the restaurants, and Anthony’s on the Boulevard will have collection boxes for people to make donations.

Tammye Cates, with Century 21 Sunbelt, has helped in making the event possible. Snider said she is collecting items in her neighborhood.
