Next month’s roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

English Caf

10:30 a.m., Thursdays,

Free informal, conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

Tabletop Game Time

6 p.m., Tuesday, April 7

Meet up at the library for a monthly board game night featuring modern tabletop games such as Catan, Ticket to Ride, Pandemic and Splendor. New games (light to medium weight) highlighted each month or bring your own games to teach and share. New and experienced players welcome.

Books & Bagels

10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 8

Join us for a morning of books and bagels. Stop by our monthly book club where everyone is welcome to discuss what they’ve been reading. Get recommendations on everything from recent releases to forgotten classics. Bagels, tea and coffee will be provided.

Knitting Nook

6 p.m., Tuesday, April 14

A casual self-guided group of people who like to knit or crochet, share ideas, techniques and patterns. Attendees should bring their own projects. Basic supplies available for newcomers.

New Movie Matinee

1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 15

Join us for a showing of a newly-released DVD each month. We’ll serve popcorn and enjoy one of the hottest new movies. Movie ratings will vary and this program is intended for adult audiences. Popcorn provided to attendees.

Artsy Adult Craft: Book Folding

1 p.m., Saturday, April 18

Join us for another Artsy Adult Craft. Make art projects by folding pages of discarded books. Supplies will be provided, so just bring yourself and some creativity. Registration required.

Butterfly Gardening with Native Plants

1 p.m., Tuesday, April 21

Florida is home to almost 200 species of butterflies. Florida master naturalist Tony Mauriello will present a talk about butterfly gardening. Various Florida native plants that attract the most common butterflies found in Southwest Florida will be discussed. The talk will also cover plants that feed adult butterflies, as well larval host plants which act as hosts for caterpillars to lay their eggs.

Tea Time Talks

6 p.m., Tuesday, April 28

Join us for our evening book discussion. The last Tuesday of each month we discuss what we’re reading over tea and cookies. Everyone is welcome to join the group and get recommendations from library patrons and staff. A variety of genres, from recent releases to forgotten classics, are discussed. Food and drinks are provided.

Morning Yarn

Children’s Programs

Baby Rhyme Time

For babies up to 18 months. During this special storytime, you and your baby will learn new nursery rhymes and fingerplays, interact with puppets, sing, read books and dance. Caregivers are encouraged to model proper storytime etiquette by remaining in the room and participating with baby during this program.

Kids Read Down Fines

4:30-5:30 p.m., Wednesdays, April 1, 8

11 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 18

Children and teens can earn a $2 credit for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only and applies only to charges on overdue materials. Please bring your library card.

Preschool Storytime

10:45 a.m., Thursdays,

April 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

For ages 3-5. Children attend this program independently while the caregiver waits nearby. Your preschooler will continue to build relationships with other kids, books and the library in a storytime designed specifically for them. The stories and activities are more complex, but just as fun. Please pick up a Storytime Ticket at the Youth Services desk the morning of the program. Space is limited.

Super Fun Saturday: Interactive Movie

10 a.m., Saturday, April 4

Enjoy an interactive rendition of an animated movie. Light snacks will be provided, along with a bag of props and goodies for the whole family.

Toddler Tales

10:15 & 11:15 a.m.,

Mondays, April 6, 13, 20, 27

For ages 18-36 months. This interactive and active time for toddlers and their caregiver is designed to advance prereading and social skills. They’ll experience storytelling, wordplay, felt board stories, fingerplays, puppets, singing, music-making, socializing, dancing and, of course, books. Tickets will be handed out at the Youth Service Reference desk before storytime begins.

Easter Eggs-travaganza

5 p.m., Tuesday, April 7

Come celebrate Easter at the library with an Easter egg hunt around the Youth Services area. Small prizes will be provided.

Kindness Club

4:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 14

Join us at the library to create kindness in our community. Kids can participate in fun activities designed to encourage kindness and help make the world a better place. For ages 5-11. Registration begins March 17.

Little Racers

10 a.m., Friday, April 17

Children ages 2-5 will build and race through our little library town with cars, trucks and anything that zooms. We provide the vehicles, roadways and buildings; you bring your imagination. Registration begins March 20.

Tinker Thinkers Club

10 a.m., Saturday, April 18

Tinker around with different materials and use your imagination for creation. For all ages. No registration required.

STEAM Club: C.R.O.W.

5 p.m., Tuesday, April 21

Be ready for fun experiments and projects as we explore the world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) with our friends from C.R.O.W. For children ages 5-11. Registration is required. Please arrive on time. Your registration is only guaranteed until the start of the program.

Family Storytime

For children through age 5. Your whole family is invited to this enjoyable, all-ages storytime that encourages the development of prereading skills through songs, rhymes, fingerplays and stories.

TAG: Teen Advisory Group

Be a part of Northwest Regional Library’s T.A.G. and make the Teen Zone the place to be. Help plan and run programs, suggest new books and other materials, create displays and decorate the Teen Zone. For ages 11-18. Service hours and light snacks provided.

Totally Twisted Tie-Dye

We’re Going on a Scavenger Hunt

COAL

4:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 21

Teens do you need service hours? Northwest Regional Library has a solution. COAL is a new program available for teens discussing relevant topics, introducing presenters and of course connecting with the community. Light snacks provided. For teens ages 11-18.
