Learn the techniques used to uncover criminal records, property history or even a marriage status when Lee County Clerk Linda Doggett holds the first of four scheduled seminars, “Be Your Own Investigator,” Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 1:30-3:30 p.m., at the Bonita Springs Public Library, Bonita Springs.

Doggett will teach attendees how to search and view Lee County’s civil and criminal court documents and public records for free on the clerk’s website. You will learn how to view mortgages, property deeds, marriage licenses, and other official documents recorded in Lee County.

Searching public records can assist with investigating:

“We always encourage our citizens to take every precaution to avoid becoming a victim of a scam or abuse,” Doggett said. “Searching your public records can help you avoid dangerous situations with the wrong people.”

Learn how to register for the free Property Fraud Alert feature and how to redact your private information from public records in accordance with state law will also be presented.

Other topics covered in this seminar include how to:

n Pay traffic tickets online; access the county’s financial and audit reports; locate where you can participate in foreclosure and tax deed auctions; postpone jury duty; and report suspected guardianship fraud.
