Northwest Regional Library sets schedule, programs for January
Next month’s roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
Adult Programs
Books & Bagels
10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8
Join us for a morning of books, fun and bagels. Get recommendations from friends, neighbors and librarians on everything from recent releases to forgotten classics. Bagels and coffee will be provided. No registration required.
English Caf

Les Paul and Mary Ford Tribute Show
6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14
Les Paul was the Godfather of the electric guitar and inventor of multitrack “sound on sound” recording. Come see Tom Doyle, Les Paul’s right hand man of over 45 years (accompanied by Sandy Doyle) play the hits. A once in a lifetime opportunity to get an up close and personal view of the life and music of Les Paul.
New Movie Matinee
1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15
Each month we’ll enjoy some popcorn and grab one of the hottest newly released DVDs to show. Movie ratings will vary and this program is primarily intended for adult audiences.
Artsy Adult Craft:
Valentine Bath Bombs
1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18
Be the bomb this Valentine’s Day. Make Valentine-themed bath bombs to enjoy at home or give as gifts. Supplies will be provided, so just bring yourself and some creativity. Registration is required.
Meet the Author: Lisa Black
1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22
Lisa Black will discuss her dual careers in forensic science and as a highly successful crime fiction novelist. She will also discuss her latest thriller, “Let Justice Descend,” featuring fictional forensic expert Maggie Gardiner and Cleveland detective Jack Renner.
Lara Herscovitch: In Concert
2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 23
Singer-songwriter-poet, performer and advocate Lara Herscovitch’s highly original contemporary folk music is spiced with blues, pop and jazz influences.
Tea Time Talks

Kids Read Down Fines
4:30-5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8
11 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Jan. 18
Children and teens can earn a $2 credit for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only and applies only to charges on overdue materials. Please bring your library card.
Toddler Tales
10:15 & 11:15 a.m.,
Mondays, Jan. 13, 27
For ages 18-36 months. This interactive and active time for toddlers and their caregiver is designed to advance prereading and social skills. They’ll experience storytelling, wordplay, felt board stories, fingerplays, puppets, singing, music-making, socializing, dancing and, of course, books. Please pick up a Storytime ticket at the Youth Services desk the morning of the program. Space is limited.
Kindness Club
4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14
Join us at the library to create kindness in our community. Kids can participate in fun activities designed to encourage kindness and help make the world a better place. For ages 5-11. Registration begins Dec. 17.
Baby Rhyme Time
10:30 a.m., Wednesdays, Jan. 15, 22, 29
For babies up to 18 months. During this special storytime, you and your baby will learn new nursery rhymes and fingerplays, interact with puppets, sing, read books and dance.
Preschool Storytime
10:45 a.m., Thursdays, Jan. 16, 23, 30
For ages 3-5. Your preschooler will continue to build relationships with other kids, books, and the library in a storytime designed specifically for them. The stories and activities are more complex, but just as fun. Please pick up a Storytime Ticket at the Youth Services desk the morning of the program. Space is limited.
Ants in Your Pants Dance Party
10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 17
Shake your sillies out at the library. Get ready to twist and shout at this special dance party. We’ll boogie down to pop hits and favorite preschool tunes. For ages 2-5. Registration begins Dec. 20. Registration is only guaranteed until the start of the program.
Tinker Thinkers Club
10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 18
Tinker around with different materials and use your imagination for creation. For all ages. No registration required.
Chinese New Year
4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21
It’s the Year of the Rat. Celebrate the Lunar Year with crafts and activities to bring happiness in the year to come. For children ages 5-11. Registration begins Dec. 17. Your reservation is guaranteed only until the start of the program.
Family Storytime
10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 25
For children through age 5. Your whole family is invited to this enjoyable, all-ages storytime that encourages the development of prereading skills through songs, rhymes, fingerplays and stories.

Quest Adventure in Virtual Reality
2:30-5:30 p.m., Jan. 13-24
Leave the two-dimensional world and immerse yourself in a 3-D, 180-degree VR experience with our Oculus Quest headsets. For ages 11-18.
COAL
4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21
Teens do you need service hours? Northwest Regional Library has a solution. COAL (Compassion, Openness, Acceptance and Learning) is a program available for teens discussing relevant topics, introducing presenters and of course connecting with the community. Light snacks provided. For teens in grades 6-12.

UNO, UNO, UNO

Do you consider yourself a champion UNO player? Put your skill and luck to the test against your friends at our teen UNO tournament. For ages 11-18.
