By Staff | Apr 10, 2019

The Southwest Florida Concert Band will perform a concert, Traveling Through Music, on Sunday, April 14, at 2 p.m. at South Fort Myers High School, 14020 Plantation Rd, Fort Myers.

The 50-member community band will open the concert with an upbeat arrangement by Robert Sheldon based on the theme of the Arkansas Traveler. The band will play a grooving Latin number called “Carnival in Sao Paulo” that will be hard to sit still for, and then feature one of its trumpet players in a solo number. There will be a stirring march from Italy called “Florentiner” and they will perform “What A Wonderful World” and “Misty,” sung by vocalist Bob Helfrich. The band will play a Jamaican Folk Suite of 3 movements that is certain to give you the laid back feel of the Caribbean Islands. The associate conductor has chosen an extremely impressive overture called Metroplex that has a lot of WOW factor. The music will take concert-goers on a journey through the Wonderful World of Disney. The program also will include some music from Greece and a dynamic and memorable arrangement of Curtain Call. TheBrass Quintet will play a couple of numbers to round out the program.

The Southwest Florida Concert Band will conclude its last concert of the season with “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Phillip.

The band also will award its annual scholarships at this concert.

All concerts are free with donations accepted. Information on the group, our scholarship program, and other performances can be found at SWFLConcertBand.org
