Standard Flower Show set for March 2

By Staff | Feb 20, 2019

“It’s All About Water” is the theme for the biennial Standard Flower Show to be presented by the Fort Myers-Lee County Garden Council on Friday, March 1, from 1-4 p.m., and on Saturday, March 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The show is being held at the Garden Council Headquarters, 2166 Virginia Ave. There is no admission charge.

The show’s theme reflects President Bernadette Hamera’s advocacy for pure, clean water, minus the nutrient pollution that results in blue-green algae and red tide. The show is being held in accordance with the National Garden Council Standards.

Carrying out the show’s theme are categories in horticulture, design and botanical arts which represent water in many of its manifestations, such as The Color of Water, Waterfalls, A Gentle Shower, Storms on the High Sea, and Rainbows follow Rain. Rae Ann Wessel, marine scientist and Natural Resource Policy Director for the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, will give a presentation on sustainable solutions to water problems at 11am on Saturday.

Free parking is available on the council’s Larchmont Street lot, adjacent to the Edison-Ford Estate.
