School District to host kickoff event for USDA Summer Food Service Program at Jim Jeffers Park
The School District of Lee County’s Food and Nutrition Department is sponsoring the USDA Summer Food Service Program from June 4 through July 27. Participating sites will provide nutritionally balanced meals to all children under 18 during summer vacation when school breakfasts and lunches are not available.
Meals are free and there are no income or registration requirements.
“This is the first time we’re doing a kickoff event for summer feeding,” said Breanna Gustafson, School District of Lee County Food & Nutrition Services Marketing Supervisor. “It’s a great opportunity to educate students and parents on the resources available to them when school is out, as well as build community through food and nutrition.”
To find a school or location offering the Summer Lunch Program near you, use the search engine at Summer BreakSpot, text “FoodFL” to 877-877 or dial 2-1-1 when schools begin releasing for the summer break.
The Summer Feeding Kickoff is from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, June 4, at Jim Jeffers Park in Cape Coral.
Jim Jeffers Park is at 2817 S.W. 3rd Lane in Cape Coral.
