More April “Do The Right Thing Winners”
The Cape Coral “Do The Right Thing” ceremony for April was held Wednesday in City Council Chambers at City Hall. These ceremony recognizes outstanding young men and women who “did the right thing.”
Thirteen Cape Coral students were recognized.
Alexa Fleming
5th Grade,
Cape Elementary
Alexa is a safety patrol monitor during parent pick up and drop off at Cape Elementary. While on duty Alexa noticed a toddler was not buckled in nor had a car seat. She expressed her concern for the child to a school official. One morning Alexa saw the car again and notified Deputy Campisi of the situation who then opened the door to let the student out and saw the toddler, standing on the floor board in the back seat of the car. Due to Alexa’s concern about the safety of the child, Deputy Campisi was able to address this situation.
Louis-Elie Laurent
6th Grade
Caloosa Middle
The principal lost her expensive bracelet at a school dance. Louis found the bracelet and turned it in. The bracelet had lots of sentimental value to it and the principal was very thankful that it was located.
Challen Lowe
4th Grade
Oasis Charter Elementary
Challen, seeing a 1st grader nervous about trying cheerleading, convinced her to participate in cheering class. Because of Challen’s support and encouraging words, she helped the 1st grader to overcome her fear. The 1st grader now loves going to cheer.
Monica Ruiz
10th Grade
Cape Coral High School
Monica witnessed be-havior that she felt was inappropriate towards a special needs student. Monica alerted the proper authorities and made sure that a completed investigation was done. Monica spoke up for a student that was unable to do so for himself.
