Upcoming fundraisers, week of March 23

By Staff | Mar 25, 2016

Upcoming fundraisers include:

* Touch a Truck fundraiser is April 2

A family friendly event where kids of all ages can explore and ask questions about their favorite vehicles is set for Sunday, April 2, to benefit the National Fragile X Foundation.

Attendees will get a close, hands-on look at numerous vehicles, including a Cape Coral Police Mobile Command Unit, Lee County Emergency Medical Ambulance, moving and tow trucks, and a Police swat vehicle, just to name a few.

All participants at the event to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (horn free hour 9-10 a.m. for those with sensitive ears) in the Cape Coral Veterans Museum Parking lot will receive a truck passport, and can visit the designated locations for a chance to win a prize.

Also featured will be a stage with entertainment, health and safety exhibitors, local vendors and sponsors. Tickets will be available for children’s activities such as a duck pond, face painting, and crafts and also for a charity basket raffle.

Admission is free and parking is available at Club Square, Iguana Mia, and Winn-Dixie parking lots. Parent supervision is required, and cameras are “highly recommended.”

This event was inspired by Ethan, the event coordinators’ 4-year-old, truck-loving, grandson who is affected by Fragile X syndrome. Fragile X is a genetic condition that causes intellectual disability, behavioral and mental health issues, and developmental and language delays. Net proceeds from the 2016 Cape Coral Touch a Truck event will benefit the National Fragile X Foundation.
