Northwest Regional Library schedules April activities, classes
Next month’s roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
Adult Programs
Exhibit: Florida Before Statehood Exhibit
April 1-16
Available during normal library operating hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday: noon to 8 p.m.; Friday, Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Explore Florida’s rich history, cultural diversity and development in this traveling exhibit from The History Museum of Florida.
Hang the Witch
2 p.m., Tuesday, April 5
Meet local author Betty Nearing as she discusses her first historical novel, “Hang the Witch,” a creatively crafted journey into the witch hunts during the Puritan New England era. Copies of Ms. Nearing’s books will be sold by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library. Registration is required.

Book Discussion: “A Touch of Stardust”

When aspiring screen writer Julie Crawford leaves Indiana for Hollywood, she never imagined that she would find herself on the set of “Gone with the Wind,” a personal witness to the private dramas of Vivien Leigh, Clark Gabel, Carol Lombard and a variety of Hollywood personalities as they struggle to survive the challenges of Tinseltown at the brink of World War II.
Storytime
Toddler Tales
10:15 a.m., Mondays, April 4, 11, 18, 25
This interactive and active time for toddlers and their caregiver is designed to advance pre-reading and social skills. They’ll experience storytelling, wordplay, felt board stories, fingerplays, puppets, singing, music-making, socializing, dancing and, of course, books.
Baby Rhyme Time
10:30 a.m., Wednesdays, April 6, 13, 20, 27
Reading to babies right from birth stimulates their minds, develops language skills and lays a foundation for later reading success. During this special storytime, you and your baby will learn new nursery rhymes and fingerplays, interact with puppets, sing, read books and dance.
Preschool Storytime
11 a.m., Thursdays, April 7, 14, 21, 28
Your preschooler will continue to build relationships with other children, books, and the library in a storytime designed specifically for them. This storytime includes stories and activities that will engage your child and encourage them to participate in the fun.
Family Storytime
10 a.m., Saturdays, April 9, 16, 23, 30
The whole family is invited to this enjoyable, all-ages storytime that encourages the development of pre-reading skills through songs, rhymes, fingerplays and stories. Parents can model proper storytime behavior by participating and staying in the room during these programs.
Children’s Programs
Kids Read Down Fines
10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturdays, April 2, 16, 30
5-7 p.m., Tuesdays, April 5, 19
Children and teens earn a $2 coupon or credit for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under and applies only to overdue charges.
Crazy 8s Math Club
4 p.m., Wednesdays, April 6, 13, 20, 27
Crazy 8s meets for eight consecutive weeks. Children that sign up will be registered for all eight programs. For grades K-5. Registration is required.
Family Movie Night
5:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 19
In the distant future, a small waste-collecting robot inadvertently embarks on a space journey that will ultimately decide the fate of mankind. Popcorn and light refreshments will be served. Sponsored by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library.

Be Financially Smart

With this DIY activity, test what you know about personal finance and learn the things you don’t. Financial do’s and don’ts will be posted daily on the Teen Zone bulletin board.

Yu-Gi-Oh

Are you a Yu-Gi-Oh pro, perfecting your skills or just beginning? Enjoy an afternoon with fellow Yu-Gi-Oh enthusiasts. Come pick up new strategies and techniques.
