Jan. 15 Gardens Tours: A Day of Soil, Farmers and Food offered by Pine Manor Community Garden
The Pine Manor Community Garden is sponsoring a local garden tour, A Day of Soil, Farmers, & Food, on Friday, Jan. 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Led by local gardeners, the guided bus and walking tours are open to the public and begin at Lakes Regional Park’s community garden, 7330 Gladiolus Dr. in Fort Myers.
In addition to touring Lakes Park’s community garden, participants will enjoy a guided tour of Miss Potter’s Place, a backyard edible garden and micro farm; Pine Manor Community Garden; and FGCU Food Forest. Participants will learn how to raise fruits, vegetables, and herbs in containers and raised beds and tropical/subtropical edible species that grow well in Southwest Florida.
Lunch and beverages prepared by the Pine Manor Culinary Program will be provided, and participants may purchase products at Miss Potter’s Place or the Lakes Park Farmer’s Market prior to the tour. In case of rain, please bring an umbrella. There will be no refunds or rain checks. The cost of the tour is $50, and proceeds benefit the Pine Manor Culinary Training Program, a flagship training center for ICARE: the Institute for Culinary Awareness, Research and Education. To purchase tickets, contact Pine Manor at 239-275-5180 or Robin Gretz at 239-357-9051.
Plots in the Pine Manor Community Garden are offered to families living in the Pine Manor community, giving residents access to fresh fruits and vegetables.
