Next month’s roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
Adult Programs
Exhibit: Centennial Faces
Oct. 1 – 31
Available during normal library operation hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday: noon to 8 p.m.; Friday, Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Northwest Regional Library proudly hosts a traveling exhibit from The Florida Museum of History. Centennial Faces, a selection of photographs by Tallahassee photographer Alvan S. Harper, gives us a fresh perspective on the lives of African-American citizens in Tallahassee 100 years ago. The subjects of Harper’s studio portraits suggest the presence of an affluent class within the African-American society of that time.

Latin Cooking
6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 27
Chef Warren teaches you to create gourmet Latin dishes. Learn more about the many varieties and flavors of Latin American cuisine and savor some of chef’s samples. Latino Americans 500 Years of History has been made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association. Registration is required.

Baby Rhyme Time

Reading to babies right from birth stimulates their minds, develops language skills and lays a foundation for later reading success. During this special storytime, you and your baby will learn new nursery rhymes and fingerplays, interact with puppets, sing, read books and dance! It is a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents and babies in the neighborhood.
Family Storytime

Five simple practices get kids ready to read Talking, Singing, Reading, Writing and Playing. Your whole family is invited to this enjoyable, all-ages storytime that encourages the development of pre-reading skills through songs, rhymes, fingerplays and stories.

Spooktacular Magic Show
by Showtime for Kids

Boyles and Ghouls will laugh and scream as the Count and Countess of Hauntsville present a fun, non-scary show full of surprises! This show is sure to please even the littlest of ghosts and goblins. The show is filled with comedy, magic, audience participation and Halloween safety tips.

On the Table: From Trash to Earrings

With an ounce of creativity you can make earrings that can look like a million $$. If you have colored pop top tabs, please bring them. If not, just come. Teens and tweens only.
Bullying – The Movie

If you don’t see another movie this fall, watch the movie Bullying. Learn the consequences of bullying, particularly how it feels to be a bullying victim. And most important of all learn what you can do to prevent bullying.

Yu-Gi-Oh

Are you a Yu-Gi-Oh pro, perfecting your skills or beginning? Enjoy an afternoon with fellow Yu-Gi-Oh enthusiasts and pick up new strategies and techniques.
It’s a Wrap

The Mummy Wrap. Teams of three will compete for the best dressed mummy. Adding to the challenge will be a stupefying obstacle course for each mummy. Prizes will be awarded to the two winning teams.
