Next month’s roster of activities at Cape Coral Lee County Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Craft Corner: Knitting and Crocheting

3:30 p.m., Mondays, June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters share ideas, techniques and patterns. Attendees should bring their own projects. Basic supplies available for newcomers. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Coral Public Library.

Chess Anyone?

5:30 p.m., Tuesdays, June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

Rise to the chess challenge and join in the fun. Bring a personal chess set, if desired. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Coral Public Library.

Hurricane Preparedness Seminar

Lee County Emergency Management offers hurricane preparation plans including family emergency plans, evacuation zones and routes, public shelters, emergency supply kits, disaster resources and more. Registration is required.

Books and Banter: Historical Fiction

Storytime

Baby Rhyme Time

10 a.m., Wednesdays, June 10, 17, 24

Reading to babies right from birth stimulates their minds, develops language skills and lays a foundation for later reading success. During this special storytime, you and your baby will learn new nursery rhymes and fingerplays, interact with puppets, sing, read books and dance! It is a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents and babies in the neighborhood. First come, first served.

Family Storytime

10 a.m., Thursdays, June 11, 18, 25

Five simple practices get kids ready to read Talking, Singing, Reading, Writing and Playing. Your whole family is invited to this enjoyable, all-ages storytime that encourages the development of pre-reading skills through songs, rhymes, fingerplays and stories. First come, first served.

Summer Reading Kick-Off!

Noon 3 p.m., Saturday, June 6

Way Too Tall Torrie will be at the library to help kick off your summer reading! Get a balloon, make a craft, register for summer activities and check out some books!

Kids Read Down Fines

6-7 p.m., Mondays, June 8, 15, 22

Children and Teens can earn a credit for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only.

American Tall Tale Heroes: Storytelling

2 p.m., Tuesday, June 9

Young audiences will sing-a-long and thrill as Katie Adams spins the big, bold stories of Paul Bunyan, Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind Crockett, and Pecos Bill. You may register online or get tickets in the library. Sponsored by Friends of the Cape Coral Library. Tickets available June 1.

C.R.O.W. Animal Ambassadors

2 p.m., Tuesday, June 16

Meet Lola, Gus or Sky! Our friends from C.R.O.W. will introduce you to the Animal Ambassadors, just some of the animals you’re reading to support this summer. You may register online or get tickets in the library. Tickets available June 6.

Design a Super Hero Duck!

1 p.m., Monday, June 22

Come and design your very own Super Hero Duck! Ducks, paint, markers, and other embellishments will be provided. This program is for Tweens only, ages 10-12. Registration is required.

John Storms & His World of Reptiles

The Story of Prince Rama; The Hero’s Journey

Meet masked characters from Bali, the enchanting Indonesian island, and participate in a mask dance-drama based on the adventurous story of prince Rama. this great myth has been captivating children and adults in Asia for centuries. Magic Workshop

Professional magician James Chartier will teach you how to make things disappear, read someone’s mind, perform magic with rubber bands, perform the cut and restored newspaper trick and much more. Registration is required.

Cape Coral SWAT Team

3 p.m., Thursday, June 18

Get to know the Cape Coral SWAT Team. Check out their gear and hear stories from these real-life heroes!

Blackout Poetry

3 p.m., Thursday, June 25

Laurie Morris teaches you how to turn book pages into artistic poems with nothing but sharpies! Supplies provided. Registration is required.
