Retired attorney pens suspense thriller — ‘Dead in the Water’
The first in a series of mystery novels authored by retired attorney and part-time Cape Coral resident AJ Basinski has jbeen published. “Dead in the Water” is now available on Amazon for Kindle and print purchase.
The novel features Lt. Mario Morales, a former LAPD homicide detective, who had retired to Miami’s Little Havana to escape the pressures of being a cop in a rough neighborhood of Los Angeles. Soon realizing he had retired too early, he signs on as the head of security aboard a Caribbean cruise ship. The suspense/thriller follows Morales as he investigates the disappearance of a bride, seemingly into thin air, while on board the cruise ship on her honeymoon.
Suspects in her disappearance include her new husband and her employer, a wealthy automobile dealer with a shady past, who insisted upon accompanying the married couple on their honeymoon.
During the course of his investigation of the woman’s disappearance, Morales uncovers a mysterious, international plot involving a Chinese entrepreneur and a prominent Miami trial lawyer. In the process, Morales becomes a target of the plot himself. But in the end, not only does Morales solve the mystery of the bride’s disappearance, he also discovers another horrible crime that had gone completely unnoticed even by the police.

AJ Basinski graduated from college with a degree in writing and is a Vietnam War veteran. After his discharge, he attended law school on the GI Bill. For almost 40 years, until his retirement from the active practice of law in 2012, Basinski prepared and tried numerous complex cases in state and federal courts.
