Pine Island Potters’ Guild end-of-season show this Saturday

2 min read

It is spring studio cleaning for the Pine Island Potter’s Guild; an end-of-season tradition passed on to the guild by Chuck and Nancy Koucky, who have been honoring this age-old ritual usually assigned to closets ? since they opened their studio in 2001.

Many of the artists will be cleaning out their studios making room for next season’s creations, or closing up for the summer as they head north. The show will feature, in part, forgotten works brought out from the back of working studios and into the courtyard at Koucky’s, where they will be newly discovered by visitors and shoppers.

Guests can listen to live music by singer/songwriter/potter Annie Wenz as they browse the artists’ booths and tables in the courtyard of the studio. They can also enjoy delicious fruit breads ? banana nut, zucchini and starfruit, to name a few ? baked fresh for this show by Laura Devoe.

This month’s show, to be held Saturday, April 11, will feature the works of potters Chuck Koucky, Barbara Darling Larkin Hosmer and Annie Wenz; wearable art and paintings by Deborah Zwetch; jewelry by Sally Braund, Laura Devoe and Nancy Koucky; and works in fused glass by artist Kim Gibbons.

The Pine Island Potters Guild meets on the second Saturday of each month, from November though April, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Koucky Studios, 5971 Bay Point Road, Bokeelia. At these gatherings the guild hosts a pottery and local art show and sale, pottery demonstrations, as well as an idea exchange between local potters and artists.

The general public is always invited to attend and meet the potters and visiting artists.

Interested in joining The Pine Island Potters’ Guild? The guild is always open to new members and there is no membership fee. The spirit of the guild is to exchange ideas, techniques and experiences, and to participate in joint projects. Potters of all levels of experience are encouraged to join. Those who are interested in pottery, but who have not yet created any works in clay, are especially encouraged to come and talk with potters about this creative and varied medium.
