Christ Lutheran Church
“Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory.” These words of Graham Kendrick’s hymn begin the liturgies this weekend at Christ Lutheran. This weekend is the final weekend before the beginning of Lent. We celebrate the Transfiguration of Our Lord, a moment in scripture where the glory of God was revealed to some of the disciples through Jesus. This mountain top experience revealed Jesus as God’s chosen one, who fulfills the law and the prophets. The church is reminded of this glimpse of glory as it prepares for the annual journey to the cross in Lent.
All three liturgies this weekend will include a rite bidding farewell to the word “Alleluia.” This word of praise is silenced during the season of Lent until it is sung again in the full glory of Easter. The Holy Communion will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. A Festival Eucharist will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Sunday, and Holy Communion with Baptisms will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Sunday.
