January’s roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

ADULT

Exhibit: Heart Gallery of Southwest Florida

Jan. 5 31

Available during normal library operating hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10 a.m. 6 p.m.; Tuesday: Noon 8 p.m.;

Friday, Saturday: 9 a.m. 5 p.m.

A gallery of photo boards representing children in foster care in Southwest Florida who are available for adoption. The exhibit provides information to people who may be interested in adopting or fostering these children.

English Caf

10:30 a.m., Thursdays, Jan. 8, 15, 22, 29

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

Nibbles and Novels

10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 14

A lively chat about books and a morning snack.

Book Discussion: “The Ocean at the End

of the Lane” by Neil Gaiman

2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 21

Gaiman’s first new novel for adults since Anansi Boys, this bewitching and harrowing tale of mystery and survival, memory and magic, makes the impossible all too real.

FAMILY

Family Storytime

11 a.m., Thursdays, Jan. 15, 22, 29

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Baby-Parent Rhyme Time

9:30 a.m., Saturdays, Jan. 17, 24, 31

Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby! These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult.

This 20-minute program is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants. Registration is required.

CHILDREN

Kids Read Down Fines

10 a.m. noon, Saturdays, Jan. 10, 24

5 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 13, 27

Children and teens earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only.

Elementary My Dear

4 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 15

Fabulous stories and activities designed for elementary school students. Registration is required.

Books-n-Bricks with Bricks4Kidz

6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 20

Hands-on engineering fundamentals and motorized model building (provided by Bricks4Kidz) with fantastic stories from library staff. For kindergarteners to fifth-graders. Registration is required.

Fantastically Fun Fractured Fairytales

6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 27

Fractured fairytale fun and crafts with special guests, Girl Scout Troop # 154. Registration is required.

Braided Bookmarks, Jan. 3 10

On the Table: Shoe Polish Batik

Step-by-step directions on how to make a batik picture using paper, crayons, shoe polish and paper towels. Sponsored by Friends of the Northwest Regional Library.

Saturday Splatter Painting for Tweens

Painting craft, terrific results.
