Next month’s roster of activities at Cape Coral Lee County Public Library offers topics for all ages.

The following activities are free to the public:

ADULTS

Craft Corner: Knitting and Crocheting

3:30 p.m., Mondays, Jan. 5, 12, 26

3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 20

A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters share ideas, techniques and patterns. Attendees should bring their own projects. Basic supplies available for newcomers. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Coral Public Library.

Chess Anyone?

5:30 p.m., Tuesdays, Jan. 6, 13, 20, 27

A venue for beginners and experts alike to rise to the chess challenge. Sets provided, but enthusiasts are welcome to bring their own

Homesteaders – From

Pioneers to Paradise

Pat Molter Emerson, author of “From Pioneers to Paradise,” shares memories of life as a Florida pioneer family. She describes what it was like for homesteaders living in Southwest Florida prior to 1920. Registration is required.

Telling Personal Stories

with Kim Weitkamp

6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 12

Nationally known storyteller Kim Weitkamp presents a storytelling workshop. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Coral Library. Registration is required.

Book Discussion:

“Bark” by Lorrie Moore

2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 14

There’s a reason Lorrie Moore is so beloved by her baby boomer brethren: she’s smart, she’s funny and her eye is even sharper than her tongue. In Bark, her latest collection of stories, all those qualities are well on display.

Identity Theft Workshop

Books and Banter

9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 27

An open forum book discussion for book lovers to talk about a favorite title. Coffee and refreshments will be served. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Coral Library.

Couples Cooking -Table for Two

2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 30

Chef Warren Caterson teaches to the secrets of cooking for two. Includes a taste. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Coral Library. Registration is required.

Family Storytime

10 a.m., Tuesdays, Jan. 13, 20, 27

10 a.m., Wednesdays, Jan. 14, 21, 28

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes.

Baby-Parent Rhyme Time

10 a.m., Thursdays, Jan. 15, 22, 29

Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby! These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants.

Toddler Storytime

11 a.m., Thursdays, Jan. 15, 22, 29

Children 2 years old and their caregivers participate in song, fingerplays and short stories. The success of this age group depends on adult participation and encouragement. Toddler storytime lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Stories for elementary-age students ages five and above. First come, first served.

Preschool Storytime

11 a.m., Tuesdays, Jan. 13, 20, 27

11 a.m., Wednesdays, Jan. 14, 21, 28

Preschoolers (ages 3 to 5) attend this storytime independently while parents or caregivers wait nearby in the library building. This storytime includes activities that require more participation and a longer attention span. Each preschool storytime lasts about 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Kids Read Down Fines

6 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 26

Children and teens earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only.
