Northwest Regional Library announces December activities
Next month’s roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
ADULT
Exhibit: From Pioneers to Paradise
Dec. 1 31
Available during normal library operating hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10 a.m. 6 p.m.; Tuesday: Noon 8 p.m.; Friday, Saturday: 9 a.m. 5 p.m.
A walk through time. From the homesteaders who built the first roads and bridges in what is now Cape Coral, to the Rosens who ushered in Cape Coral’s new era.
English Caf
10:30 a.m., Thursdays,
Dec. 4, 11, 18
Practice English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time. Advanced registration is not necessary.
Nibbles and Novels

Chat about books while enjoying a morning snack.

Vignette of Santaland Diaries
2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18
The Santaland Diaries exposes the underside of Santa’s workshop when David, a down and out-of-work cynical writer, desperately takes a job as Macy’s elf during the holiday crunch. Registration is required.
FAMILY
Baby-Parent Rhyme Time
10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 3
9:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 6
Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby! These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants. Registration is required.
Family Storytime
11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4
This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes. Registration is required.
CHILDREN
Kids Read Down Fines
5 7 p.m., Tuesdays, Dec. 2, 16, 30
10 a.m. Noon, Saturdays, Dec. 13, 27
Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading, during the allotted time. A total of $8 per day may be earned. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only. Bring your library card with you. Your library card or library card number is required in order to access your account.
Pig Out On Reading!
4 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10
Daisy, the famous pot-bellied pig, and Farmer Minor have been all over the country sharing their love of reading. Farmer Minor will tell stories about Daisy and read books. There will also be plenty of time to hug or pet Daisy.
Books-N-Bricks
with Bricks4Kidz
6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 16
Children will experience hands-on engineering fundamentals as they build motorized models (provided by the Bricks4Kidz organization) that coordinate with and enhance the fantastic stories presented by the library staff. Program is limited to 30 children in grades K-5. Registration is required.
Elementary My Dear
4 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18
Enjoy the fun as the library shares favorite books and fun activities designed specifically for elementary school aged children. Registration is required.
Merry Moosemas!
6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 23
Reindeer aren’t the only members of the deer family that get into the holiday spirit. Join the fun at the Northwest Regional Library and celebrate the season with all things “mooseical.” The craft project for this fun program will involve making antlers of your very own. Registration is required.

On the Table: Broken CD Art

How many books can be balanced on the head while walking 20 feet? Can your team win the coconut broom race? Enjoy board games, card games or electronic games?

Let’s Talk Books – “Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry
4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15
What could be better than sipping hot chocolate, munching a great cookie and talking about a favorite book? Come on in, join the group. While you are reading Gift of the Magi, envision which stars should play the main characters. High school and middle school students welcome. Sponsored by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library.
NWRL Performing Arts Club

Have dramatic flair? A secret passion for singing? A confident speaking voice? Great dance moves? A charismatic presence? A hidden juggling talent? Want to learn or share any of these skills? Join the NWRL Performing Arts Club! Explore drama, dance, movement, speech, music and other performing arts in an energetic, expressive setting filled with games, exercises, skits, lessons, videos and more!
