Cape Public Library schedules classes, activities for October

Next month’s roster of activities at Cape Coral Lee County Public Library offers a number of topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

ADULTS

Craft Corner: Knitting and Crocheting

3:30 p.m., Mondays, Oct. 6, 13, 20, 27

Get creative and make a handmade treasure. Instruction and materials will be provided for newcomers, or attendees may bring their own project to work on. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Coral Public Library.

Chess Anyone?

5:30 p.m., Tuesdays, Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28

Rise to the chess challenge and join in the fun. Bring a personal chess set, if preferred. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Coral Public Library.

Book Discussion: “Husband’s Secret”

2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8

Discovering a tattered letter that says she is to open it only in the event of her husband’s death, Cecelia, a successful family woman, is unable to resist reading the letter and discovers a secret that shatters her life and the lives of two other women.

English Caf

6 p.m., Tuesdays, Oct. 14, 21, 28

10 a.m., Fridays, Oct. 17, 24, 31

Practice English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time. Advanced registration is not necessary.

Books and Banter: Escape to Other Worlds

9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 28

Sci-Fi/Fantasy: Stories that contain elements from both the Science Fiction and Fantasy genres. Join other book lovers and come prepared to talk about a favorite book. Relax with coffee and refreshments. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Coral Library.

Halloween Spooktacular

2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11

Boyles and Ghouls will enjoy fun, magic and music presented by the Count of Hauntsville. Come and join the library for this non-scary show. Wear a Halloween costume! Kids, family, parents welcome. Recommended age 4 and up. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Coral Public Library. Registration is requested.

Kids Read Down Fines

3:30 4:30 p.m., Thursdays, Oct. 2, 23

6 7 p.m., Mondays, Oct. 6, 13, 20

Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading, during the allotted time. A total of $8 per day may be earned. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only. Bring your library card with you. Your library card or library card number is required in order to access your account.

Help Stop Bullying

1:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4

Deputy C. Tyus from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office will be presenting tips for bullying prevention and cybersafety. Education and strategies shared here will be age appropriate for children and teens. Learn the risks and speak up!
