Cape Coral
Lee County Community Band
The Lee County Community Band will be performing a concert on Dec. 13 at 3 p.m. at Cape Coral High School auditorium at 2300 Santa Barbara Blvd.
Richard Bradstreet will be conducting and Norman Jones will again be singing with the band, leading the sing-a-long songs, announcing the program and challenging the audience to tolerate a few Irish jokes.
Admission to all concerts is free. Donations are accepted and sponsors are welcomed..
Cape Youth Football Association
The annual general membership meeting of Cape Youth “Storms” Football Association, Inc. will be held on Tuesday Dec. 15, at the Cape Coral Association of Realtors building located at 918 S.E. 46th Lane. Sign-in is at 6 p.m. and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is the election of directors for the 2010 season, by-law changes and such other business as may be brought forward on the agenda.

Bishop Verot Catholic High School
Bishop Verot Catholic High School will host a six-week Spring Training 2010 baseball program for players in grades 1 through 12 from Jan. 17 to Feb. 21. Bishop Verot head coach Tom LoSauro will direct the program in conjunction with U.S. Baseball Academy. Sessions are offered in advanced hitting, pitching and catching at a cost as low as $99 for six weeks. Space is limited. Registration is now under way. Symphony Youth Orchestra
The Southwest Florida Youth Orchestra, Sinfonietta and Chamber Ensembles, under the direction of Maestro Michael Hall, will present the first concert in their series entitled “A Brave New World” on Sunday Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. at Cypress Lake High School Center for the Arts. The Youth Orchestra will perform Dvorak’s Symphony #9 ‘New World’ capturing the American spirit like no other. The evening will feature the recognizable 4th movement with its explosive finale along with other selected works by Bernstein and Saint Sans that showcase the talent of our youth.

While holiday shopping, enjoy the sounds of the Symphony Youth Orchestra on Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Bell Tower Shoppes as they perform in their annual “Holiday Under the Stars” concert. This concert will feature the Sinfonietta and Youth Chamber Ensembles. Admission is free.

North High Chorus
The North High Chorus presents a winter concert “A Knight of Peace” on Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at 5000 Orange Grove Blvd. A wide variety of music will be performed by 120 chorus students. Adults from the community will join the Cavalieri Rossi chorus for some selections from Vivaldi’s “Gloria”. An entertaining night of music has been planned for your enjoyment. Admission is $2 per person.
On Sunday, Dec. 13 at 3 p.m., the North High mixed choir, Cavalieri Rossi and the adults from the First United Methodist Church will present “Gloria” in its entirety. Everyone is invited to this free concert which will be presented at the First United Methodist Church at 2466 1st Street in Fort Myers.
Alice in Wonderland Jr.
Broadway Palm Children’s Theatre presents Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr. playing selected matinees through Dec. 22, at Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre. Very Scary Story Contest
R.L. Stine, author of Goosebumps book series, has teamed up with Volunteer USA to announce a Very Scary Story Contest for young readers.
Students in Lee, Charlotte, Collier, Hendry and Glades counties in grades four through seven are invited to participate in the contest aimed at promoting the joy of reading among children and their families.
For the Very Scary Story Contest, students are asked to write their own scary story set in HorrorLand Amusement Park as the first characters settle in for their visit to the park in Stine’s bestselling book, “Goosebumps HorrorLand: Revenge of the Living Dummy.” Contest winners, accompanied by their parents, will be recognized at a breakfast and reading event during Volunteer USA Foundation’s Celebration of Reading held on Feb. 12 in Bonita Springs. The students will be R.L. Stine’s guests of honor at the Celebration breakfast, part of an annual event hosted by former Governor Jeb Bush to support successful family literacy programs in the southeast. Winter Arts Camp
Have your children spend winter break engaged in the arts. At the 3rd Annual Alliance Winter Arts Camp, students in grade Winter Arts Camp for grades one through eight participate in a variety of visual arts classes each day. Individual classes will introduce a new medium or technique and each camper will take home several complete works of art. The camp is from Dec. 21 through Dec. 31. North Fort Myers
Teen Night
The North Fort Myers Recreation Center located (behind the North Fort Myers Library) 2021 North Tamiami Trail, will be open Friday, from 6 to 9 p.m. for all teens between the ages of 13 to 17. Teens will be able to participate in ping pong, billiards, playstation, Wii, karaoke and more. There is no charge.
