Volunteers for Toys for Tots

The 2009 Toys for Tots campaign needs volunteers to help collect toys for needy children in Lee County during the Holiday Season. Help is needed in all parts of the county. The Pfc. Paul E. Ison Detachment No. 60 for Lee County Marine Corps league hosts the campaign, however, you do not need to be a marine to assist. If anyone is interested in becoming a volunteer, contact Judy Bowler, Toys for Tots coordinator at 699-8121.

Coordinator needed

Children’s Home Society is in need of a silent auction volunteer coordinator. The purpose of the silent auction coordinator volunteer is to coordinate and/or obtain items for the annual silent auction for the Child Advocate event in November of each year. The candidate for this position must have an outgoing personality, enjoy being organized and keeping good records, and have some prior experience coordinating silent auctions or similar activities. Must be computer literate.Volunteer would be requested to give at least five hours per week, and up to 10 hours per week from October through the event date and the close of all post event activities as needed. Literacy Volunteers

Literacy Volunteers of Lee County, a nonprofit adult literacy organization, is seeking volunteers to help with fund-raising projects. If anyone has the time, energy and enthusiasm to share for an important cause call the office at 242-4374.

Mentors needed

The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools is in need of mentors to match with high school students who have been awarded the Take Stock in Children Scholarship. The mentor commits to meet with the child during school hours two to four times a month. No tutoring is involved and basic training is provided. Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Florida is in need of mentors to match with children in need of a caring adult in their lives. Volunteers can choose to be a “Big Brother” or “Big Sister” in either our school-based program, where they mentor a child at school one hour a week, or our community-based program, in which they mentor the child twice a month by doing various activities in the community. Volunteers must be at least 15-years-old for the school based program, and 18-years-old for the community-based program. Children’s Advocacy

The Children’s Advocacy Center, which supports and protects the child victims of abuse through collaborative intervention and comprehensive treatment in a soothing environment needs volunteers. Opportunities include administrative help in the office, support with special projects and help with fundamentals. Call 275-4427 for details.
