Volunteer Opportunities
Mentors needed
The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools is in need of mentors to match with high school students who have been awarded the Take Stock in Children Scholarship. The mentor commits to meet with the child during school hours two to four times a month. No tutoring is involved and basic training is provided. Guardian Ad Litem
Guardian Ad Litem is in need of volunteers. The GAL program volunteers serve as advocates for children involved in abuse, abandonment and neglect cases. Volunteers would represent children in court-ordered cases. A training and criminal background check screening are required. Clerical volunteers are also needed to provide assistance in the office. Voices for Kids
Voices for Kids needs volunteers. This non-profit organization works in partnership with the Guardian Ad Litem Program 20th Judicial Court. They ensure that every abused and neglected child in Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Glades and Hendry counties has a court appointed Guardian ad Litem volunteer and that financial assistance and other resources are available for their accompanying health, educational and social needs. Children’s Advocacy
The Children’s Advocacy Center, which supports and protects the child victims of abuse through collaborative intervention and comprehensive treatment in a soothing environment needs volunteers. Opportunities include administrative help in the office, support with special projects and help with fundamentals. Call the Friendship Volunteer Center for details at 275-4427.
Toys for Tots
The 2009 Toys for Tots Campaign needs volunteers to help collect toys for needy children in Lee County during the holiday season. Help is needed in all parts of the county.
The PFC Paul E Ison Detachment No. 60 Lee County Marine Corps League hosts the campaign, however, it isn’t necessary to be a Marine to assist. if anyone is interested in becoming a volunteer, contact Judy Bowler, Toys for Tots coordinator at 699-8121.
