Banned Books Week from Sept. 20 to Oct. 3. Celebrate the freedom to read during Banned Books Week. Observed since 1982, this annual event is a celebration of the right to read and reminds Americans not to take this democratic freedom for granted. The top two most challenged books of 2008 are “And Tango Makes Three” by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell and “His Dark Materials (trilogy) by Philip Pullman.

Chess is at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday on Sept. 22. Registration is requested.

Cross corner, knitting, crocheting and cross stitching is at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 28. Registration is requested.

Bagels, books and banter is at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Registration is requested.

Craft corner, scrapbooking-back to school special is at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26. Registration is requested.

Introduction to Business Decision Database is 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Business Decision enables any business to perform the same sophisticated business analysis used by America’s top companies.

Welcome to story time is a library program of picture book sharing, finger plays, songs and other activities. Spanish/English family story time with Telemundo’s Martin Ycaza is 11 a.m. on Saturday Sept. 26. For Spanish and non-Spanish speaking children and adults.

Kids read down fines at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24 and Monday, Sept. 28.

Back-to-school Peeps Contest is at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18. Registration is requested.

Johnny Appleseed, for grades K through 5 is at 4 p.m., is on Friday, Sept. 25. with puppeteer and storyteller Katie Adams. Registration is requested.

The library is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Saturday.
