Local groups seek volunteers
Big Brothers Big Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Florida is in need of mentors to match with children in need of a caring adult in their lives. Volunteers can choose to be a “Big Brother” or “Big Sister” in either our School-based program, where they mentor a child at school one hour a week, or our Community-based program, in which they mentor the child twice a month by doing various activities in the community. Volunteers must be at least 15 years old for the school based program and 18 years old for the community based program. Guardian Ad Litem
Guardian Ad Litem is in need of volunteers. The GAL program volunteers serve as advocates for children involved in abuse, abandonment and neglect cases. Volunteers would represent children in court ordered cases. A training and criminal background check screening are required. Clerical volunteers are also needed to provide assistance in the office. Children’s Advocacy
The Children’s Advocacy Center, which supports and protects the child victims of abuse through collaborative intervention and comprehensive treatment in a soothing environment needs volunteers. Opportunities include administrative help in the office, support with special projects and help with fundamentals. Call the Friendship Volunteer Center for details at 275-4427.
Voices for Kids
Voices for Kids needs volunteers. This non-profit organization works in partnership with the Guardian Ad Litem Program 20th Judicial Court. They ensure that every abused and neglected child has a court appointed Guardian ad Litem voluneer and that financial assistance and other resources are available for their accompanying health, educational and social needs.
