Blood pressure and blood sugar clinics
Tatalomo’s Nurses Registry will provide complimentary blood pressure and blood sugar clinics on the third Monday of each month at Lake Kennedy Senior Center at 400 Santa Barbara Blvd. The clinics are free. For more information call 574-0575.
Juniper Village
The Olympic spirit carries on with the Third Annual Juniper Village at Cape Coral Senior Olympics. Groups are invited to come and compete together. Call today and register your team or attend to show support. The event will take place at Juniper Village at Cape Coral, 4920 Viceroy Court, Cape Coral. To register your team (three or more team members) call 542-3121 and ask for Eileyn Sobeck-Bador, The event starts at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Games such as “hoops”, balance games, and a good old fashioned egg race will be just a few of the games played.
The Florida Addictions Institute
Keral Kronseder-Vogt, Executive Director of the Florida Addictions Institute has announced that the following Lee County residents will graduate from the Florida Addictions Institute on Monday, Sept. 21: Henry L. Coggins; Candice Lee; Lydia McCune; Ellen Moran; Catherine Morency; Brenda Reim; Margery Runyan; Tona Wert; and Matthew Williams. The graduation ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at HealthPark Medical Center, Room HP1B in Fort Myers. The program is free and open to the public.
Kronseder Vogt has also announced that due to demand for classes from throughout the state of Florida, the Florida Addictions Institute will offer live, online classes beginning in January. These interactive classes will provide the training required to become a Certified Addictions Counselor credentialed by the Florida Certification Board. Additionally, the adult learner model used by the Institute allows completion of the program without disruption of employment, offering classes in the evenings and on weekends.

CVS Pack Your Bag
The National Council on Aging and CVS Pharmacy are sponsoring a free “Pack Your Bag medication consultation event on Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Rotino Center. A local CVS pharmacist will conduct a 15-minute presentation, followed by one-on-one consultations to discuss the advantages and myths that exist surrounding the use of generic medications.The event is free and held at 5817 Driftwood Parkway. Paradise Tiki Hut
The Paradise Tiki Hut plans to hold, Tribute to a Soldier, benefits every Wednesday, now through Nov. 4, with the presentation at ECO Park on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11.
Proceeds from specials during the events will benefit the local Tribute to a Soldier campaign.

Kidney Thrift Store
The Cape Coral Kidney Thrift Store is located at 4836 Candia St. and Miramar in downtown Cape Coral off Cape Coral Parkway. It is a little known treasure chest of donated items from the community. All of the proceeds go to the Kidney Foundation and also dialysis patients in the Cape. We are not a large chain and rely on word of mouth for donations. Our volunteers are very dedicated to the success of the store. So please if you could bring your donations to us it will be greatly appreciated. You may even find a treasure for yourself. CHADD
CHADD of Lee County is a local chapter of the national organization. It provides information and support for adults, parents with AD/HD children, and educators and other interested professionals. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lee Memorial Hospital Auditorium, 2776 Cleveland Avenue, Fort Myers. Guest speakers provide informational programs, time for questions and sharing. School district in-service credits are available and CEUs are available through Genesis Counseling of Fort Myers. A concurrent adult AD/HD support group will be investigated. Meetings are free and open to the public.

Seniors may qualify for power wheelchair
Medicare’s regulations now make it easier for seniors and others with debilitating conditions such as arthritis, stroke, heart and breathing problems, or diabetes, to obtain a power wheelchair at little or no cost. Miracle on Wheels is trying to increase public awareness about the assistance options that allow seniors and the disabled to remain independent in their own homes rather than undergo difficult surgery or other expensive treatment, or resort to moving into a nursing home. These assistance options are available to anyone with problems getting around their home, or who are in danger of falling due to the medical condition.
