Goodwill Industries
Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida is assembling a team of volunteers to assist with a variety of events including fund-raisers, donation drives and office assistance. Goodwill Industries is a 501(c)3 nonprofit agency that helps people with disabilities and other disadvantages overcome their barriers to employment and independence. Literacy Volunteers
Literacy Volunteers of Lee County is a nonprofit agency that operates a free and confidential adult literacy program in Lee County. Trained volunteers age 18 and older, who are high school graduates and literate in English, tutor adult students. Tutor training sessions are held monthly. Interested persons should call 242-4374 for an information/registration packet. The agency also benefits from volunteers who provide program assistance – assessing and reassessing students – and office assistance. Those interested in volunteering for the positions should also contact the office at 242-4374.
Wake-up America
Wake Up America needs volunteers to pick up groceries from participating markets. The groceries are then dropped off at the Distribution Center on Central Avenue in Fort Myers and takes less than two hours any morning Monday-Saturday. Help is also needed at the Distribution Center to sort groceries. For details, call Belinda at 357-5241 or Jerry at 334-4665.
Lee County Library System
Opportunities are available, and may vary, at all library locations and service units. Volunteers serve as computer coaches, book shelvers and menders, clerical helpers, special events assistants and other responsibilities as needed. Senior Friendship Centers
Senior Friendship Centers is looking for friendly volunteers to drive a client to its Adult Day Service Center on Evans Avenue once per week. For information, call Ruthann at 275-1881. It is also in need of groups to be a part of the “Birthday Club Program.” The volunteers visit clients in home once during the month of their birthday to bring cheer to them. Volunteers would sing “Happy Birthday,” have cake and spend time with an isolated senior. For details, contact Rose Krause at 275-1881, ext. 225.
