Cape Coral Historical Museum
The Cape Coral Historical Museum, 544 Cultural Park Blvd., will open Tuesday. Hours of operation are from 1-4 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. In conjunction with Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day, the museum will be open at 10 a.m. Sept. 26 for Museum Day, a one-day national event where participating museums and cultural institutions across the country offer free admission to Smithsonian readers, Smithsonianmag.com visitors and friends who present a Museum Day Admission Card while supplies last. It will also give out a CD-ROM by Paul Sanborn on the history of Cape Coral. For details, call 772-7037.
Rotary Park Environmental Center
Rotary Park Environmental Center, 5505 Rose Garden Road, presents:
– Sept. 12: Trash to treasure at Eco Preserve from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Free admission and parking.
– Sept. 19: Florida Yards and Neighborhoods yard tours from 8 a.m.-noon. Get planting ideas and design inspiration by seeing several other yards in the Cape. Cost is $10 for residents and $11 for non-residents. Reservations requested.

The Cape Coral Yacht Club, 5819 Driftwood Parkway, presents:
– Wednesday: Sunset Celebration on the Pier from 5-8 p.m. Live music by David “The Flamingo Kid” Barber. Enjoy food and drink specials at KC’s Riverstop. Vendors selling arts and crafts and more. Free to the public.
– Thursday: Devil Rays take on the Boston Red Sox from 3 p.m.-midnight. Cost is $57 and includes transportation via motor coach, entry fee to the game, parking fee, tolls and light refreshments on bus. Registration required.
– Tuesday: Island Dolphin Sunset Cruise from 6-8:30 p.m. Cost is $30 plus tax for ages 10 and older, and $20 plus tax for ages 2-9. Advance registration required.

Columbus Day parade, festival sponsors needed
The Charles J. Bonaparte Lodge No. 2504, Order Sons of Italy in America will host the 26th Annual Columbus Day Parade and Second Annual Columbus Day Festival on Oct. 10. Sponsorships include:
– Platinum sponsor, $2,500: Name and company logo on all advertising printed material, media announcements will include company name as a sponsor, vendor space provided at event, six reserved VIP seats for headline entertainment, company provided banner hung at event and promotional announcements during the event.
– Gold sponsor, $1,000: Name and company logo on advertising printed material, company provided banner hung at event, vendor space – no tent provided – and VIP seating for four.
– Silver sponsor, $500: Name on advertising printed materials, vendor space – no tent provided – and VIP seating for two at headline entertainment.
– Bronze sponsor, $250: Name on advertising printed materials and table space provided at feast.
There will be a limited amount of platinum sponsors.
All sponsors are entitled to parade entrance with no additional fees. Vendors must provide own tables, chairs, electricity – quiet generators – et cetra. Space must be self-contained in area.

Basically Bluegrass Concerts & Pick-Ins
Basically Bluegrass Concerts & Pick-Ins are held on the first Sunday of each month, except holidays, at the Lee Civic Center in North Fort Myers. Pickers welcome to attend the jam session under the shade tree. Cost is $6 at the gate, or $25 annual membership to Acoustic Music Society of Southwest Florida.

English Country Dancing lessons

The Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers will hold auditions for new singers at 9 a.m. Sept. 12 and 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14. The 75-voice group will present seven concerts during the 2009-10.
