Voices for Kids gets United Way funding
The United Way of Lee County recently awarded Voices for Kids of Southwest Florida $32,500 to support the Guardian ad Litem Program, with a goal of providing a Guardian ad Litem child advocate for 100 percent of Lee County’s abused children.
Voices for Kids’ mission is to ensure that every abused and neglected child in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties has a court-appointed Guardian ad Litem volunteer and that financial assistance and other resources are available for their accompanying health, education and social needs.
Although 528 of Lee County’s abused children were represented by the Guardian ad Litem program in June, about 28 percent of Lee’s children are without a Guardian ad Litem volunteer voice speaking up for their best interests in court, the child welfare system and the community.
Voices for Kids is the only community non-profit organization to recruit, train and support volunteer Guardians ad Litem child advocates for children removed from their homes due to neglect or abuse.
