Police Community Volunteer Unit seeks applicants

1 min read

The Cape Coral Police Department is accepting applications for the next Community Volunteer Academy. Classes will be Oct. 59, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those who are interested in the CVU program need to submit their applications by Friday, Sept. 4.

Community volunteers are an important part of the CCPD. They perform a variety of duties – parking enforcement, fire lane restrictions and code violations. Volunteers provide traffic control when needed and assist with administrative tasks throughout the Police Depart-ment.

During training, volunteers receive instruction in patrol techniques, criminal law, communications, and procedures and policies. After training is completed successfully, the officer is placed on a short probationary period. When probation is completed, volunteers are issued uniforms. Volunteers are required to work a minimum of 16 hours per month to remain current in the program.

To be eligible for the Com-munity Volunteer Unit, applicants must possess a valid Florida driver’s license, be a resident of Lee County and be willing to undergo a background check.

Applications will be available at the Cape Coral Police Department at 815 Nicholas Parkway. For more information, call 242-3346.
