Summertime Senior Celebration

The first annual Summertime Senior Celebration will be held at the Lake Kennedy Center, Friday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The celebration is free, with free parking, admission, food and drink samples, entertainment, health screenings, prizes and giveaways to attendees.

The event features over 50 exhibitor booths with information on senior services, lifestyles, health and wellness, finance, travel and more.

There will be live entertainment all day. Free health screenings include vision checks, blood pressure checks, hearing, balance, and more.

Dress for the summer – there will be a grand prize for the best summertime outfit.

The Summertime Senior Celebration is open to seniors (50 plus), their families, friends and to the public.

Cape Coral

Historical Museum

The Cape Coral Historical Museum on Wednesday, Sept. 8, will once again be open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, from 1-4 p.m., at 544 Cultural Park Blvd.

The museum has a campus of three buildings surrounded by a memorial Rose Garden and a Native Plant Demonstration Garden. There are many exhibits showing the unique history of Cape Coral going back to the time of the homesteaders with an example of a cracker house as well as the history of the pioneer settlers.

A military room dedicated to our veterans can be seen completed with collections of uniforms, ships, planes, lead soldiers and much more.

Featured also is the history of city government as well as police and fire departments; firsts: schools, parks and businesses; and a 1960s room.

There is also a Native American Room showing an extensive collection of Indian artifacts, arrowheads, tools, pottery, etc., as well as the story of the Seminoles and our own Florida natives the Calusa.

Trash to treasure

A trash to treasure at Eco Preserve – a large outdoor flea market, one man’s trash is another man’ s treasure – will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The cost to rent a space is $30 (Cape residents get a $10 discount on their space).

Lab Fest

A Labrador Fest – a fun day in the park for labs and their families and friends – will be held at Four Freedoms Park Saturday, Sept. 26, from 8 a.m.-noon.

There will be raffles, games, prizes, contests and loads of fun to raise funds and awareness for Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida and Wagging Tails Dog Park. Admission is $5 per dog and advance registration is available at the Cape Dog Bakery.

Most games bowled

Six local Bowland Centers of Southwest Florida will be attempting to set a world record for the most games bowled in a single day Saturday, Aug. 29, from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. The cost for the 24 hours of bowling is $15 per person.

The event is being held to commemorate National Bowling Week and participants could win up to $200 in cash.

Tampa Rays vs. Boston Red Sox

See the Tampa Rays take on the Boston Red Sox Thursday, Sept. 3, 3:30-11:45 p.m. The $57 per person cost includes transportation via motor coach, a ticket to the baseball game, parking fee, tolls, refreshments and snacks during the bus trip.

Volunteer Fair

A Volunteer Fair will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Shell Factory’s Party House.

The event is an expo of organizations and volunteer opportunities in Lee County. The fair gives a chance to interact with organization representatives and find volunteer opportunities of interest.

A single volunteer can make a significant difference in the lives of others.

Fort Myers

Imaginarium Night with the Miracle

Join in supporting the Imaginarium Night with the Fort Myers Miracle Friday, Aug. 28, at 7:05 p.m., at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers.

The evening is just $12 and includes a Miracle Baseball hat, admission, hot dog and soda! A portion of the proceeds will go to the Imaginarium.

Beantown Travel Club cruise

The Beantown Travel Club (for current and former Massachusetts residents) is planning a seven-night Eastern Caribbean Cruise aboard the Holland America Line “Euro-dam” leaving from Fort Lauderdale.

The tour, which runs form Feb. 20-27, will feature stops in San Juan, St. Thomas, Turks and Caicos and Half Moon Cay.
