2 min read

The Urgent Care Center of Southwest Florida presents the American Red Cross of Lee County’s Scrubby Bear’s Don’t get Sick – Wash-up Quick classes Aug. 29.

The entertaining and informative program will teach children preventive methods against getting sick during the upcoming flu season. Each child who participates will leave with their own cuddly stuffed “Scrubby” bear and song sheet, as well as membership in the Scrubby Bear Clean Hands Club.

“Teaching children some easy techniques for minimizing the spread of illness at school and at home during this upcoming flu season is crucial,” said Dr. Larry Hobbs, managing partner of the Urgent Care Center and president of the Lee County Medical Society, “We are proud to partner with the American Red Cross of Lee County and to bring this new program to Cape Coral.”

Scrubby Bear’s Don’t Get Sick – Wash-up Quick is a free 30-minute, interactive program scheduled hourly throughout the day for children ages 4-10. Children must be accompanied by an adult and will learn about germs, where they lurk and how to reduce receiving and spreading them during the upcoming flu season.

One of the keynotes of the program is for children to learn the Scrubby Bear song that they can sing and establish the 20 seconds necessary for effective hand washing techniques.

Seven 30-minute classes will be conducted throughout the day at the Cape Coral facility at 1708 Cape Coral Parkway in Cay West Pavilion, Suite 2. Classes are scheduled at 9, 10 and 11 a.m., and 1, 2, 3 and 4 p.m. Because space is limited to 20 students per class, pre-registration is required. Walk-ins will be accommodated only if space is available in a class.
